Michelle Obama’s obesity report: Tax pop and candy, subsidize fruits and veggies

Michelle Obama’s 124 page Childhood Obesity Report is complete for the ‘Let’s Move! campaign’ and it is now online for review.

Most families will not disagree with the ‘findings’ of the report but the extent that common-sense recommendations are detailed in ‘government-speak’ is laughable.

A simple piece of advise such as “Turn off the TV and go out and play” turns into this:

“An association between television viewing and risk of being overweight in preschool children, independent of socio-demographic factors. Specifically, for each additional hour of television viewing, the odds ratio of children having a BMI greater than the 85th percentile was 1.06.1 and . . . physical activity assists children in obtaining and improving fine and gross motor skill development, coordination, balance and control, hand-eye coordination, strength, dexterity, and flexibility—all of which are necessary for children to reach developmental milestones.”

The report largely suggests government take a stronger role in warning parents, mandating changes in schools, and regulate companies that produce junk food and soft drinks.

It’s largely a liberal response to any problem but what’s more interesting is the encouragement of sin taxes on junk food, soft drinks, and candy and propose subsidizing fruits and vegetables.

Madison, Jefferson, Addams and Washington whirl in their graves in light of the talentless, meddling, race Commies that have gained control of our great Republic.

Taxing Butterfingers and Doritos is discussed in which section of the Federalist papers?

There is no problem so intractable that can't be fixed by taxing something... anything.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't the calories in fruits and vegetables just as fattening as the calories in junk food and soda when consumed in excess?

Obesity is a result of the behavior, not the food. And it's not the government's place to be dictating behavior--even if people don't want to listen to the public health information campaigns and the forcing of "healthy" lifestyles is for their own good.

Subsidized fresh fruit?

OK...5 cups peaches...3/4 cup sugar...2/3 cup flour...some cinnamon, nutmeg, and cloves...a little salt...some butter..

Make a pie crust...some flour...some Crisco...some salt...

Combine...425 for 20 minutes, reduce to 350 for 25 minutes...

Ice cream optional.

No junk food here.

Michelle, I don’t know how to cook. Can big government spend some of that new tax money to send a cook to my house?
