Scott Rigell, running as the favorite of the GOP establishment in the Republican primary in Virginias 2nd Congressional District, donated $1,000 to Barack Obama, according to opensecrets.com, a research group that tracks money in politics.
Rigell was one of the highest Obama donors in the zip code, Scott Taylor told HUMAN EVENTS. Taylor, a former Navy SEAL and local business owner, is also running in the Republican primary.
Taylor, whose campaign slogan is Send a SEAL not a RINO, said, Rigell "didnt even vote in the Republican primary, and then gave $1,000 to Barack Obama on March 10, 2008.
In November Republicans will aim at the Democrats, but for now their only expression is against the Republican establishment, and thats who Rigell is, said former Rep. Tom Davis (R.-Va.). He gave money to Obama, he gave money to Mark Warner, and Louise Lucas, who is a Democrat state senator down there.
On a local blog, Rigell responded by saying that, The only alternative on the Democratic side was Senator Obama. Yes, I was moved by his rhetoric and by the prospect of seeing a minority rise to the highest office in our land. If we were to end up with a Democrat President I wanted that person to be Obama, not Clinton; I was not indifferent to the two possible outcomes.
Rigell also supported the economic stimulus and through the Cash for Clunkers program received $444,500 from the U.S. taxpayers to benefit his automobile dealership. When asked about accepting the money, Rigell said, " I had no ethical problem whatsoever."

Would a letter to the editor of the local paper do any good?

RINOS must go in Nov 2010. McLame is one of them and JD Hayworth has good news.
J.D. Hayworth must be jumping up and down in joy today with the expected news that the Republican National Committee is snubbing Phoenix for its 2012 National Convention. Sen. John McCain has been running (for his life) all over this state, touting his support of late for building a wall at the border and his solidarity with Senate Bill 1070, a Republican initiative passed by a Republican Legislature and signed by a Republican governor. A law, by the way, that is supported by most of the states likely voters including half of Arizona Democrats, 69 percent of independents and a whopping 84 percent of Republicans, according to a Rasmussen Poll of likely voters. Now, Politico is reporting that the Republican National Committees site-selection panel today will select Tampa as the site for the 2012 convention. This, in part because of the calls for a boycott of Arizona due to passage of the states new law cracking down on illegal immigration. Understand, the RNC is not boycotting us. Theyre just staying away as you would from a bad odor. One created, it must be pointed out, by their own people and supported by their own recent presidential nominee. Could you script this any better for JD Hayworth?
Immigration advocates woo McCain

Which of course might be why the RINO could win, if we are splitting the conservative vote again. I sometimes wonder if that's the point to so many conservatives running in all these primaries.

I haven’t donated to the RNC since 2007 and will never do so again.

If one
registers as a democrat, wouldn't one be considered a member of the democrat party?
I've been voting in Virginia's primaries and elections for 28 years and have never had to sign anything to vote in a primary.

Taylor faces an up hill battle in raising money for the campaign. Rigell is topping his rivals in fundraising, although most of his money is coming from his own pocket. Actually, most of that money is coming from taxpayers since his car business got so much money from the Cash for Clunkers boondoggle. Time to money bomb for Taylor.

Rigell isn’t the incumbent here. But Glenn Nye does have to go.

You’re right. My bad.
Still, Rigell is ACTING like an incumbent.
You should see the steaming email I just sent to Jim Webb. I’ll probably be hauled off to the gulag as a result.

Just an insignificant token, but Freepers have no problem with Steve Poizner who sent $10,000.00 to Al Gore in the heat of the very partisan Bush/Gore Recount.

all those GOP letters go straight into the trash can unopened every week. Why not send them a message instead of ignoring them?
For all we know they just think you're poor and can't afford to send them money.
Return their solicitation with a big fat red 0 on the donation line and write something like; "Not one damn dime" and list your reasons, such as the names of the RINOs they support. Or say you give to the CONSERVATIVE candidates that YOU choose, not the RINOs they choose.
Then return it in the enclosed self-addressed stamped envelope. ;*)

We don’t register a party affiliation here in VA. I voted for Howard Dean in the 2000 Dem primary. Unfortunately he self-destructed too early.
