Scent of fear in the air for Republicans
Las Vegas Sun ^ | May 12th | Jon Ralston

Posted on 05/12/2010 4:27:09 AM PDT by Halfmanhalfamazing

“There’s something happenin’ here, what it is ain’t exactly clear …”

— Stephen Stills, 1967

You see Utah’s Bob Bennett, who had a few moments of apostasy in the congregation’s eyes and dared to bow at the altar of bipartisanship, and he is brutally excommunicated.

You see Arizona’s John McCain, who couldn’t please the faithful as a presidential nominee and now is campaigning as a Joe Arpaio disciple, and he may be the next to be expelled from the Church of the Conservatives.

And, closer to home, you see Sue Lowden and Brian Sandoval, who are desperately trying to preach the right gospel and make the parishioners sing along, and yet they are getting crushed in straw poll after straw poll.

For what it’s worth, the moderate-cleansing in the Republican Party in these days of tea and poses could pay off in the short run for the candidates who can deliver the best conservative sermons and fool some of the small electoral universe on June 8. But four weeks before voters who don’t cast ballots early go to the polls, you can almost smell it in the air in the U.S. Senate and gubernatorial primaries — the scent of uncertainty, even of fear.

Establishment republicans have the most to fear from the conservative base.

As an Arizona resident, I am looking forward to voting for JD Hayworth and against McCain. Time to enjoy a long deserved retirement, John...

Moderate cleansing is just the first step to the socialist cleansing in DC to come.

The only fear here is the stench rolling off authors like this who suddenly are learning just how loathsome the average American finds their progressive fascist political ideology.

I think the democrats have more to worry about then the republicans do.

Ralston didn’t include the Maine Republican Party adopting the tea party platform this past weekend.

Liberals and RINOS know that there will be a political earthquake come November.

If I were an arizona resident, McCain wouldn’t get my vote in the primary nor the general.

I regard McCain to be as dangerous as Obama(maybe even moreso), given how progressive that JM is, and how the media try to portray JM as a conservative all the time. He can do what Obama can’t. He can seriously damage conservative efforts. If JM could rally efforts within the republican party back towards progressivism, that would clearly make JM more dangerous than Obama. JM *IS* the enemy within.

In that case, it would be better if JM didn’t get re elected. Give the seat away. Even with Obama at the helm.

I agree. Simply put, if you’ve voted for “healthcare reform,” T.A.R.P., if you plan on voting for the “financial reform” bill, you better look for another job. That goes for weasels in both parties. I will not yield my family to the government. Period.

I tend to agree with the article, although the way it is written just irritates the heck out of me. The way I read between the lines is that this writer thinks the electorate is having a tantrum and just needs to take more prozac and watch TV.

I DO think it is time to vote out the incumbents and vote in only conservatives that will repeal all of these 0bama bills.

It’s numbers game we can’t win...Clinton won with 43% of the vote because people like you threw their vote away on the ‘never was gonna win’ Perot.

I think it is safe to say stupid Perot voters ushered in what we are experiencing now-—beginning with corrupt Clinton dynasty—the savaging of Bush and now the worst of the worst Obama.

So, with your attitude, be prepared to change your name to NCS

Naive Conservative Slayer.

People like you, whipping yourself up into a fantasy frenzy depress me no end, you wil architect our final end, through your lack of foresight, and big picture thinking.

You are a tool of the liberals.

And they count on you, in ensuring their continuation of dominance.

Ask Eric Massa and Bart Stupak about “excommunication”

We are talking about elites who think it is acceptable to even consider putting a person on the Supreme Court who has disrespected our military the way Kagan has.

I can’t even express the contempt I have for the senators and other politicians in Washington who allow our sons to die for our country and then put Kagan on the Court.

They should all be kicked out, Republicans especially, because they pretend to know better.

Don’t be frozen with fear! It’s time to take a stand.

Methinks you read far too much into his post. If you are afraid ousting RINO’s is going to create problems then you must be content to see those same RINO’s cross over the aisle and work with Democrats to pass laws that further wreck the country. Good luck with that.

and he is brutally excommunicated.

Just a little over the top to call losing a primary a brutal excommunication.
