Misplaced Burrito Triggers SF Bomb Squad Response

SAN FRANCISCO -- A suspicious package containing a burrito disrupted San Francisco Municipal Railway Service in the city's Sunset District early Tuesday and prompted a response by the bomb squad.

Transit officials called the police after the package was discovered at 35th Avenue and Judah Street at around 8:48 a.m.

Light rail service on the N-Judah line was disrupted during the investigation and bus shuttles were set up, Muni spokeswoman Kristen Holland said.

Police concluded their investigation at 10:30 a.m. after determining there was no risk to the public and light rail service resumed, Officer Boaz Mariles said.

A witness on the scene reported the package was found to contain a burrito.

How long before it becomes illegal to leave something behind? These responses are expensive.

What do they do in Israel?

You scoffers must never have experienced an authentic Mission District burrito.

Explosive doesn’t begin to describe it!

Some 70s and 80s anarchists proposed very similar actions to create disruptions. Things that look like they could be bombs don’t kill people (at least not directly) but make a major mess of life, especially when put in high volume areas like major rail stations, big freeway interchanges, or central downtown areas.

What do they do in Israel?

Jews are very practical. I'm sure they just eat their burritos.

I never considered that!

But seriously, the “left behind package” is becoming expensive to deal with. I wonder how other countries deal with it?

Knowing the pinkos in San Freakcisco, next they will be calling for registration of your burritos, and finger printing too.....

I’d rather put it in the right place and trigger a HazMat response.

As I understand it, the Israelis have become very conscientious about keeping track of things like that. Basically if you get up to walk away and leave a package, someone will point it out to you.

If police are called for an unattended package its usually for good reason.

This wouldn't have happened if the burrito bomber had just driven like Henry Ford meant us to.
