That tells me a lot right there. At a time when Britain has to cut taxes AND spending to right the ship, they're going to have to compromise on the later with their socialist coalition and continue to spend themselves towards bankrupcy.
Actually, they both want to cut taxes, the difference is that the Tories want marriage incentives and inheritance tax breaks whereas the LibDems want fewer people to actually pay taxes by raising the taxation threshold.

I’ll take it....................better than the alternative.

I think initially this is good news — but I am gaurded about it. The Conservatives will have to form a coalition with the LibDems, who split from Labour — THAT is not a SAFE or stable partner to form a government with. How long can that last?

The scuttlebutt is that the deal is for a full four years. It’s way too early to tell how long it will last, but the initial reports seem to be that both party’s MPs are delighted by the outcome so far.

They weren't terribly popular to begin with anyway, and certainly not much of a vote getter at a time when people are worrying more about the money they have, not the money they leave behind. And the marriage incentives will probably be pretty meaningless, if they happen at all, so I suspect in this particular case, the LibDems will get most of what they want.

It looks like the LibDems will get their way here. Tories in return got their spending cuts and Britain will stay out of the Euro under Cameron. LibDems also got some electoral reform (though not proportional representation), wheras the Tories got their multi-billion pound Trident replacement.

In a race between a leftist, a hard-core leftists and a raving lunatic leftist, who do you vote for?
All he’ll do is weaken what little conservatism is left in Britain by constant kowtowing to the raving leftists. Hope I’m wrong, but...

Hi manc...
I wondered if you would answer in this thread. :) What do you think of the developing situation?

Lovely family! I am glad to see a real family in at 10 Downing Street!

I’m happy Brown has gone trust me, I was in the military when maggie was there and then when Labour came in and they destroyed the military, did massive cuts etc
maggie went after the unions and privatised many areas and good for her but I think times have changed and this conservative party is more left than say conservatives here especially on social issues.
International affairs I don’t expect to see a big difference, however I do think they will stop some spending and try to revamp some areas in the UK but you can bet your house that the likes of the BBC and the Guardian,/unions etc will go after him with all they have .
It is interesting how Europe is much mroe right and for some reason we have some here who seem to think that the left is the way to go even though it has been proven it does not work

Frankly, I think most of Europe’s right is on the left side of the American spectrum. The British voters certainly didn’t move very far to the right in last week’s election, despite having every reason for wanting to.
And I don’t see David Cameron and Obama having any problems getting on with each other in the months ahead.
