The Pill ruined the institution of marriage, says Raquel Welch

Raquel Welch has blamed the Pill for the decline of the institution of marriage.
The Hollywood actress said the widespread use of oral contraceptives had led to a breakdown in sexual morality and fuelled the growth of rampant promiscuity among the young.
Miss Welch, 69, said the situation has grown so grave that 'these days nobody seems able to keep it in their pants or honour a commitment'
While she argued that it carried some benefits, she said the enduring legacy of the Pill has been social anarchy.
Miss Welch has been a sex symbol since she sprang to international fame for her role in the 1966 film One Million Years BC - and was voted by readers of Playboy magazine as 'the most desired female of the 1970s'.
But in an article to mark the introduction of the Pill to the U.S. market 50 years ago, she distanced herself from the fruits of the sexual revolution of which she was a part.
'The growing proliferation of birth control methods has had an awesome effect on both sexes and led to a sea change in moral values,' she said in an article for television channel CNN entitled 'It's SexO'Clock in America'.
A positive consequence of the Pill was it had 'made it easier for a woman to choose to delay having children until after she established herself in a career', she said.
Miss Welch, who has three failed marriages behind her, added that a 'significant and enduring' effect on women was the idea that they could have sex without any consequences - with the result that fewer today saw marriage as a 'viable option'.

Yes, order means something. You sent a flippant post to me that sounded a little hostile since the post you were mocking was a serious post, but I decided to take it as a joke.
You then sent a second flippant answer to me that made it clear you were just being hostile, especially after I have elaborated on my original post in a number of longer, more thoughtful posts.
Now even after all this, you are persisting in your flippant hostility.
Why not just speak openly and tell me what you are trying to say?
If you disagree with me, then tell me why, this snippish crack making is tiresome.

I saw the other day that a Pill for men is in the works. I say it is a great idea, but could they really get men to take such a pill? I dont think so. I hope they do however, I want men to take some of the responsibility of not making babies. Would women trust a man who says he's taking the pill??

It isn’t jaded, and rather than narrow, it is looking at the history of courting rather than the narrow view of the last 40 years only.
What do you think drove courting and dating methods for centuries, and why do you think it changed so much in the 1970s?
What could return things to what they were before the 70s?
Making sex a one way street for men again, like it was throughout history, that would make the females come up with a new way to maintain equilibrium, my guess is that they would revert back to the old ways of restraint, and control over their sexual favors.

Do you read the magazine “First Things”? It pretty much confirms what ansell2 is saying.
Contraception made sex very cheap for men and women, but left the ultimate choice for reproduction with women. Many women use this as a way to get money, control, or just fit in (my wife teaches high school, and the latter is a big factor).
What is interesting is the article talks of the resulting cost to marriage. It leaves the pool of marriable men rather small for most women, while the dating or hook up pool is very large. And most of the time, the two pools don't over lap.
It is the article “Bitter Pill”.

Some other things the pill has ruined:
- It has ruined our cultures.
- It has ruined our minds.
- It has ruined our homes.
- It has ruined our affections.
- It has ruined our children that survive.
- It has ruined our churches.
- It has ruined our schools.
- It has ruined our creativity.
- It has ruined our economy.
- It has ruined our defense.
- It has ruined our health.
- It has ruined our sex drives.
- It has ruined our intentional fertility
- It has ruined our personalities.
- It has ruined our morale.
- It has ruined our water.
- It has ruined our environment.
- It has ruined our spirits.
- It has ruined our future.
Who knows by how many magnitudes more people have been murdered by abortifacient birth control than by surgical abortion? Surgical abortion is just the tiny tip of the enormous iceberg. The pill is insecticide against people in a world that is increasingly and grotesquely misanthropic. It is a brutal chemical attack against Creation and Creation's Holy God. It is the seed of our self destruction. It should have been called the suicide pill.
Agreed on all counts.
As several others have said, I believe that the destruction of marriage also has quite a bit to do with the rise of militant feminism and the ease of divorce, which can occur seemingly on a whim it seems.
When nothing is held Sacred, then nothing really functions correctly anymore.
I wish that I knew of a way to put the 'genie' back into the bottle.

Depends upon why teenagers are taking them. I took them as a teenager because it cleared up my acne as well as regulated my cycle and stopped severe cramping.
