Senator Robert F. Bennett, an 18-year veteran Republican who had been seeking a fourth term this fall, was stripped of his partys nomination on Saturday at the state convention, becoming one of the first Congressional victims of the surging ferment of discontent from the Tea Party-infused Republican right.
Mr. Bennett, 76, was outmatched in delegate votes by two relative newcomers despite an enthusiastic endorsement and convention speech from Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor and local Utah hero, and a political pedigree of deep Mormon roots and public service.

Bennett will run independent. So will Crist. Specter may join the party after Sestak kicks his ass.
Here's my take on November: In a three-way contest between a Democrat, a Republican, and an eggplant - bet on the eggplant.
senatus Bridgewater 57, Lee 44. Utah will have Senate primary. (via @RobertGehrke)
Don’t you love these moderates? Party, prinicples - hell. Its all about THEM.
Utah will no longer be represented by the pro-amnesty for illegals, bailout-supporting career politician. Now they can elect a real conservative. To celebrate, I’m going to boil some tea.
great ...especially since he originally promised to serve only 2 terms
Free at last, free at last...
I think Mitt Romney was the kiss of death.
Someone noted in a previous post that it’s too late now to register as an Independent. I hope that’s true. (He’s probably secretly done that in case what just happened, happened).
Here’s some good news- the Senate has one less supporter of amnesty for illegal aliens.
They are "moderates" because - since it's about "themselves", they constantly 'stick their finger in the air' to see which way the wind is blowing, so they can take a position accordingly to their own SELF INTEREST. They only took a 'conservative' position as long as it was in their own political self interest. Now that the conservatives told them to take a hike, they opt for another route.
These people are SCUM. No better than RATs.
ONE DOWN, LOTS TO GO!!
YOU'RE NEXT, MAD JOHNNY!!!
J.D. FOR SENATE!!!
JAN BREWER FOR EMPRESS OF AMERICA!!!
p.s., my kid just batted in the loaded bases in his Little League team, kinda jazzed...couldn't tell, right?....
I think we have a few more states to go before we get to Arizona. I’d like to see Bob Inglis of South Carolina ousted.
Last time Utah ousted Cannon, who like Bennett is all about amnesty. People are sick of it. If the GOP had a brain they’d figure that out...it’s pretty obvious the $$$ they get from their special interests is a lot more important than you, I or our laws.
Whoever gets the Osmond family wins the race
I suspect that we are headed towards six or seven different "parties" like many other countries where after you win you have to negotiate with some of the other groups to form a coalition government in order to have a majority.
My questions is will this make for better government?
...The GOP strawmen haven’t had a brain for many moons. And won’t find one going to see the wizard...
Next stop Arizona, and bye-bye McCain...
I just spotted a clip of him on tv.....his voice was breaking up...seems like he is in shock....he should go now with some class.
