The police chiefs of Minneapolis and St. Paul say a proposed state immigration bill modeled after Arizona's law would cause mistrust and have a "chilling effect" in immigrant communities. In a news release issued today, Minneapolis Police Chief Tim Dolan, outgoing St. Paul Police Chief John Harrington and incoming St. Paul chief Tom Smith say that local law enforcement officers should not have to be the primary enforcers of federal immigration laws. The chiefs say such a law would instill a culture of fear in immigrant communities and prevent crime victims and those with information about crimes from coming forward.

I used to live in Houston. Did not know how the chiefs felt about it (Lee P. Brown, and maybe Watson would have been against CCW), but most of the beat cops were for CCW. Some beat cops even viewed law abiding CCW holders as a kind of “backup”. One police chief in Central Texas said that if citizens were allowed to have CCW’s at the time, the Luby’s massacre would not have been as severe, and the citizens would likely put a stop to the nut.
Ya gotta love Texas!
So what else is new?? There must be something in the water in Minnesota. How else can one explain how an electorate can vote for such morons as Al Francken, Jesse Ventura and the late Paul Wellstone, clowns all.
Chief Acevedo: INS/ICE is not doing their job, and the higher ups in that agency are obstacles to their rank and file who want to do their jobs. So instead of whining that the AZ law is not fair (it’s copied off the Federal Law, which is NOT being enforced), instead pressure those agencies to DO THEIR JOBS. Maybe throw some numbers at them like the man-hour costs to APD of taking up the slack for ICE’s inaction. Ooops, how rude of me, I’m making a constructive suggestion. The Dem way is just to whine and whine and.......
I would say that there are two police chiefs that need replacing.
I am an immigrant, albeit American 89% of my life. I have a serious problem imagining how I can feel distrust and experience any kind of a chilling effect against my community and my city due to this law.
If strangers, foreigners, criminals, irrational tribalists are deemed to deserve more consideration than people like me, I have to wonder where Political correctness has lead us.
That these stupid law enforcers can't make the distinction between an "immigrant community" and an illegal alien community simply solidifies my resolve to work, as strongly as I am able, towards replacing clueless law enforcers like these.
Ping!
Incoming St. Paul Police Chief Tom Smith...
There.
Fixed it for you.
It's amazing how easily the weak of character fall into the claim of entitlement of the American version of the aristocracy, when they are elected or appointed to a position of power.
Chief of Police is a political position appointed by the Mayor and City Council. The liberal cities will always have a likewise liberal Chief of Police. The rank and file officers will be much more conservative.
My experience is that MPLS is far less professional than St.Paul but that’s just my opinion.
Is the USA in it too deep to matter?
