Herriman councilman Milton "Mick" Shannon, co-founder of the Children's Miracle Network charity, resigned Thursday after being charged with felony criminal mischief.
Shannon was been charged in 3rd District Court in West Jordan with criminal mischief, a second-degree felony, for intentionally destroying property on Feb. 10. Court documents say Shannon slashed tires and scratched the body of a vehicle belonging to a man he believed was having an affair with his ex-wife.
Shannon said Thursday that the charges are an attempt to defame him, but did not say by whom. He said he is in the midst of divorce proceedings. He plans to appear in court on Friday.
Herriman city officials became aware of the charges on Wednesday, said city spokeswoman Nicole Martin.
What is the Children's Miracle Network? "The organization was founded by Marie Osmond and her family, John Schneider, Mick Shannon and Joe Lake. Childrens Miracle Networks most recognizable symbol and greatest fundraising tool is its red and yellow Miracle Balloon icon. As of 2008, Childrens Miracle Network has raised more than $3.4 billionmost of which is donated a dollar or two at a time." Source: Children's Miracle Network.org
From the article: Court documents say Shannon slashed tires and scratched the body of a vehicle belonging to a man he believed was having an affair with his ex-wife.
Records show Mick Shannon, co-founder of Children's Miracle Network, is a financial supporter of Mitt Romney:
According to: Herriman, UT Political Contributions by Individuals
"MR. MICK SHANNON (CHILDREN'S MIRACLE NETWORK/FOUNDER), (Zip code: 84096) $2300 to ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT INC. on 03/01/07" [This same source says "Karen Shannon" at same zip code and on same date gave another $2300 to ROMNEY FOR PRESIDENT, INC]
This financial support goes back to Romney's run for Senate in 1994: "MICK SHANNON (OSMONDO FOUNDATION), (Zip code: 84092) $300 to ROMNEY FOR U S SENATE COMMITTEE INC on 07/27/94"
This sounds like a PERSONAL issue.
What a jack ass. I have contributed to this program before, I thought it was a safe bet (maybe not). The affair with ex-wife, ah, its not an affair unless you are still married.
In this article by Analane Powell, BYU Athletic Communications, BYU said:
We are pleased to recognize the generosity and leadership of Mick Shannon as our Honored Club Member for the BYU v. Utah game.
Mick is a Legacy Member of the Cougar Club who has served as a volunteer leader both on the Cougar Club Board of Directors and with the leadership of our Salt Lake Chapter.
Along with personally financial sponsorship for Cougar Club activities, Mick has also used his influence to bless BYU fans worldwide. For example, it was Mick who put together a fireside featuring Dale Murphy, Danny Ainge, and Steve Young that was videotaped and distributed to youth groups and others throughout the LDS Church. This year it was Mick who single-handedly made it possible for Ty Detmer to speak at the Salt Lake Chapters Big Blue Bash.
When asked, Mick said his favorite BYU sports moment was the 1980 Miracle Bowl, and this was no surprise. Mick Shannon likes miracles. He likes watching them and he enjoys making them happen.
In 1982 along with Marie Osmond and few others, Mick co-founded the Childrens Miracle Network, which has become one of the worlds leading childrens charitiesraising funds for medical care, research, and education that saves or improves the lives of 17 million children annually. To date the Childrens Miracle Network has raised more than $3.4 Billion.
Thank you Mick, for all you have done for the Cougars and for so many others.
West Jordan in Utah...

Oh noez...
“Court documents say Shannon slashed tires and scratched the body of a vehicle”
What sane man would do that ???
Oh he thought he had a reason...He “Owned” his ex-wife...
“a vehicle belonging to a man he believed was having an affair with his ex-wife.”
So he was stalking a woman who was not his wife..
(not that stalking his wife would be any less criminal)
I bet she already had an Order of Protection against this dangerous animal too...
The womans life is her business and not this creeps...

Hell, I'd a given him a condolences card!..............
Good point.
THis has nothing to do with the Children’s Miracle Network.
The guy is IN divorce proceedings, so his wife isn’t really his ex-wife YET. And the charges are from February, so it could be that it was part of what led them to divorce proceedings.
It is imature to key someone’s car, but if I found out some guy was sleeping with my wife, I’d hope I could keep my anger in check. A little property damage might be a good outcome, given that a lot of men resort to physical violence in this situation.
You don't understand! This PROVES that Mormonism is false, and that Mormons are eeeeeeevil! (oh, and that Mitt Romney is eeeeeeevil too!)
Actually, this is Colofornian's life work, as far as I can tell: Hunt for ANY news story that shows ANY LDS person in a bad light, then post it on FR to start...
Which isn't exactly clear from the story. 'ex-wife' is balanced with 'in the midst of divorce proceedings.'
Whatever it is shes well rid of him..
its not clear whether hes a wife beater either...
But it is obvious hes vindictive and violent...
Hes not exactly the victim in this case...
just staying home and getting ddrunk would have been a better life choice..
Yea, that was confusing. Ex implies divorced.
I never thought of the Children’s Miracle Network as being a Mormon organization.
It's not.
Let me get this straight: Mormons emphasize testimony this about a person (Smith) and testimony that about a church...but when I post testimonies this and that -- living testimonies -- about the lives of Mormons...you now object?
I thought you thought that testimonies were important! And that testimonies need to go beyond just mere words and be transferred into actions?
Don't we get lectures all the time from Mormon "scriptures" that gossip about Christian sects' supposed "wrong"ness, "corrupt"ness, and creedal abominations? A Mormon "scriptural" verse reading: that: they draw near to me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me, they teach for doctrines the commandments of men, having a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof. (Pearl of Great Price, Joseph Smith - History, v. 19)
Don't you & co. spread this slander around the world about Christians via your tithing $? Translating it into hundreds of languages? And supporting missionaries to repeat it? And if Smith & his disciples were going to presume about the "living testimony" of Christians about their supposed "corrupt"ness...
...about how we supposedly "draw near to" God with our lips, but our "hearts are far from" God...
...and supposedly have "a form of godliness, but they deny the power thereof..."
...well, doncha think the "living testimonies" of good works Lds preach all about should match the lip service they give in their meetinghouses?
Doncha think the living testimonies of Mormons should show that they draw near to God with both their hearts and lips, and not just fill up court rooms? Doncha think that the "power" they display should do more than simply pay another bailbondsman to get them out of jail?
Or maybe, just maybe, you might realize that this has been happening from the get-go: That Joseph Smith, glass-looker, was convicted on that charge in the 1820s. And he would have been convicted of more in the 1840s. And criminal Mormons have been slandering Christians ever since...and some Mormons just don't like all the crimes of glass-looking, destroying printing presses, bigamy, polygamy, theft, sexapades, etc. being published, so they simply go after the messenger -- like Smith did as mayor of Nauvoo!
Of the Children's Miracle Network co-founders, who's not Mormon?
