it’s already The End of the World as We Know It. I don’t foresee life returning to the way it was any time soon, possibly never.

Add a willow tree and a mimosa tree for pain, some tobacco and liquor for barter, and I think you're good. ;)

I was happy to see that I passed the "things to have" test.

You're right. I'm trying to gird up those I care about to that fact, but unfortunately, they seem resistant, unable to accept the fact that we'll never return to pre-Obammunist America. Therefore, I am making preparations on their behalf.

Musical instruments and whatever they need like strings and a tuning fork.

I know this is all in good fun, but it's a good example of why you shouldn't let anyone know what you have. Tell people what you have, and they'll lining up to mooch off you, or kill you and take it.

It's my belief that the most useful weapons to have in a SHTF scenario are a .22 and a 12-gauge. Lots of ammo for both, birdshot in particular for the 12-gauge.

Of course, other weapons and calibers are important, but those two will be of the most use in putting food on the table. .30-06 will be good for taking a deer, elk, or removing a two-legged varmint from the face of the Earth, but with a .22, you can pop and squirrel, rabbit or feral cat and have dinner right then and there.

I have extra strings for my Ovation acoustic, but I think my electric guitars and amps will be pretty useless for awhile.

even a soccer mom will kill you to get food for her children.

Exactly. Most people don’t realize how close they are to actually doing something like this.

We see example after example over history where regular, average folks totally changed their demeanor and outlook (and actions) when confronted by the unpredictable.

If a 62 year old grandma can pick a car up off a child, she cane sure cut your throat for food to feed that child.

Thanks for the article, Been prepping for a long time here.. and I am always adding or rotating stuff, pretty much ready.

Its amazing, I am thinking back to some 10 years ago when I started prepping such an article would never see the light of day in the MSM, now prepping is seen as “mainstream”

Do you have a tuning fork? Many people use electronic ones. I learned with a tuning fork so that is what I’ve always used. I have tons of strings for both guitars, 6 and 12 string, don’t have electric. Just learning dulcimer now.

One key thing you will need that is not on the list and has not been mentioned:

A BIBLE

History has shown time and time again that a persons faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, (or lack there of) plays a huge part in whether one survies or not.

For those of who have not done so, I would encourage you to buy a water purifier.

On the order of things, it really isn't expensive and i

Last week, in an American city, 2 Million people are boiling their water, due to a break in their primary water main.

In Katrina, people were walking through water they could drink but for a purifier.

In Haiti, the water was contaminated and a water purifier would have helped stem problems associated with fouled water.

In Tennessee the floods took out the clean water supply but again, a water purifier would have delivered clean water.

Please note there is a difference between filtered water and purified water.  Filters are fine for backwoods hikes, for the most part but, a water purifier in a grid down situation is an absolute must.

I personally have the Lifesaver bottle for just such an emergency.

It can purify 6,000(1,500 gallons) liters of water on one filter.  That's Katrina water that everyone was walking through.

It will remove germs, chemical, effluence, etc and return pure water that is drinkable and can deliver 2.5L per minute.

“ The smallest bacteria are about 200nm (200 nanometers) in size, the smallest viruses are about 25nm. The holes in LIFESAVER membranes are 15nm so nothing is getting through.”

They also offer a jerry can version that holds 18 liters and filters 20,000 liters(next on my list)

These things aren't cheap but hey, When you are thirsty you will be glad you invested in these and so will your family

The prices are as follows:

6,000 liter  Lifesaver bottle =  $179.99

20,000 Liter Lifesaver Jerry Can =  $399.00

I like your list. I try to explain to people what they need and in the order they need them but a list like this can help them.

I will pass it on.

"...even a soccer mom will kill you to get food for her children."

I can't imagine a worse nightmare...a young mother with child at my door crying for food.
(BTW, I've stored some food for her too)
