Eco-pandering Pepsi
American Spectator ^ | 5.5.10 @ 3:08PM | By Paul Chesser

Posted on 05/05/2010 5:50:36 PM PDT by Behind Liberal Lines

As an investor in PepsiCo, National Legal and Policy Center's Peter Flaherty had something to say today at the annual shareholders meeting....

PepsiCo is a member of the U.S. Climate Action Partnership a coalition of corporations and environmental groups. USCAP’s mission is to “quickly enact strong national legislation to require significant reductions in greenhouse gas emissions.” The House of Representatives has obliged in the form of the Waxman-Markey bill. According to the Heritage Foundation, this bill would destroy over 1.1 million jobs, hike electricity rates 90 percent, and reduce the U.S. gross domestic product by nearly $10 trillion over the next 25 years.

If consumers have to spend all their money on their electric bills, how are they going to buy potato chips? (PepsiCo owns Frito Lay)...

PepsiCo distributes Aquafina, reportedly the largest-selling brand of bottled water in the United States. Bottled water has come under attack by the same people who push global warming. They argue that Aquafina is just tap water anyway, so it needlessly adds to carbon emissions to bottle it and truck it around.

Instead of defending the rights of its own customers to buy its product, PepsiCo seeks to appease these critics by jumping on the global warming bandwagon. It has even come up with something called the Eco-Fina bottle that uses 50% less plastic, saving an estimated 75 million pounds of plastic annually. Of course, the activists aren’t fooled, accusing PepsiCo of “greenwashing.”

So for PepsiCo, it’s a slippery slope. Once you accept the dubious premise that your plastic bottles made from petroleum are destroying the earth, you end up having to support grandiose plans to save it, which of course necessitates massive government intervention in the economy.

I'm a teamster working for pepsico. Not too long ago our mission was to make a quality product, efficiently deliver it to our customers and return a decent profit to our shareholders.

Now our priorities are to make biodegradable bags, push diversity, and cheer lead the socialists in Washington. We rank and file employees are still breaking our backs dealing with this situation while keeping the company profitable.

Christ Almighty, its tough to go to work everyday when you're eyeball deep in this BS. Then I come home read the posts here and deal with being eyeball deep in that other BS from Washington.

I like Pepsi’s new arab head-chopper logo.

I’ve switched to Coke, by the way. The “cleaver” logo gives me the whillies.

Coke started with pushing the carbon tax too.
We no longer purchase any Pepsi products or Coke products in my house.

We switched to store brand soda for a couple of weeks and now no one in the house drinks any soda.
Best thing we ever did.

” Pepsi’s run by leftists? Why am I not surprised?”

It gets better.

PepsiCo Corporate Officers
Wahid Hamid
Senior Vice President, Corporate Strategy & Development

Wahid and Barry are old friends and roommates and perhaps more ..ahem..from the Occidental days.

Hamid was a wealthy foreign exchange student from Karachi, Pakistan who became close friends with Barry ( or whatever name he went by )
at Occidental.

Hamid and other Muslim Pakistani foreign exchange students Mohammed Chandoo and his brother Ahmed ( IIRC ) , traveled with Barry to Pakistan in the 1980s.

Wahid and Mohammed were big fundraisers for Barry in 2008 .
They all remain friends with Barry and were guests at Barry’s White House Ramadan dinner .

I used to work for them too - I feel your pain, back when I worked for them...I’d see all this PC crap coming from the company hot and heavy - they are marketing idiots.

Is Coke hiring? Seriously

“I think it’s called Cotts now. At least up in Canada it is.”

It’s still ‘RC’ down here in the lower southern states. Hard to find in some places. Shasta’s a good brand, too. But that’s mostly in the west.
