Gov. David A. Paterson announced on Monday that the state would accelerate consideration and granting of pardons to legal immigrants for old or minor criminal convictions, in an effort to prevent them from being deported. Readers' Opinions Comment Post a Comment

The move sets up a confrontation between the governor and federal immigration officials, who have taken more aggressive action to increase deportations in recent years. Immigration lawyers on both sides called the step extraordinary and said it could ultimately affect thousands of people in New York.

“Some of our immigration laws, particularly with respect to deportation, are embarrassingly and wrongly inflexible,” Mr. Paterson said in a speech on Monday at an annual gathering of the state’s top judges. “In New York we believe in renewal,” he added. “In New York, we believe in rehabilitation.”

Including things like, casting votes in elections even though inelible, welfare fraud, and THE ACT OF BEING IN THE COUNTRY ILLEGALLY. Thanks Second Amendment First.

Uhhh, did any of the posters on this thread READ the article?

accelerate consideration and granting of pardons to legal immigrants for old or minor criminal convictions

I don't have a problem granting pardons to legal immigrants for either long past or minor convictions (i.e. a misdemeanor criminal record) assuming they lead a clean life and are self-supporting.

Is it normal for natural-born citizens to get pardons too after they've been clean for a long time?

Partial amnesty. They were legal immigrants that broke the law, making them no longer eligible to remain. They were supposed to be deported; probably hid and stayed anyway.

I wonder if he’d still believe in rehabilition when one of these convicts breaks into his house and rapes a loved one of his?

The key word is ‘illegal’.

As long as you are this, you are safe with 0Dumbo. The hell with the law.

Geeze. When did “being an illegal or commiting a crime in MY Country become OK?”

FUBO!

Illeagal in any sense of the word is the same to me. Means, you are breaking the law of the USA and you go to jail.

FUBO! and all your Marxist staff!.

I honestly do not think that scenario would change their mindset.

These politicians like the ones in Albany - I call them running dogs - are pathological in their advancement and defense of their hard core goals of socialism and secularism. The individual citizen, treaties, or any principle matters not in the least...it’s about destroying our society’s values.
