NEW YORK (Reuters) An apparent failed car bomb in a dark-colored sport utility vehicle which was smoking and emitted a small "flash" caused police to evacuate New York's Times Square on Saturday night, Broadway's busiest night.
A New York Fire Department officer told Reuters the vehicle was found to contain explosives, gasoline, propane and burned wires and was being treated as a "failed device."

The SUV was parked very close to a production of "The Lion King" on 45th Street. Women in evening gowns were among the crowd on one of the warmest nights of the year and the busiest night of the week for Broadway theaters in the area. < snip > EXPLOSIONS WERE WATER CANNONS
Reuters reporters on the scene said they heard an explosion from the area of the SUV around 9:15 p.m. An NYPD community affairs officer said that and another small explosion heard by bystanders were the sound of water cannons aimed at the vehicle in an attempt to break through the glass.
Two fire trucks were also at the scene, prepared to douse the vehicle with water if needed, the firefighter said.

Additional information from a link in the other thread... Just for the “record”. So to speak.
No name of a suspect.
Thank you for the ping Liberty Rocks.
You’re welcome, Cindy. :)
Looks like those mean Methodists could be at it again!
Yep, must be!
Don’t know if you saw or not, but people on the main thread in Breaking News are saying that the SUV was parked just outside Viacom’s offices - Viacom produces Comedy Central/South Park.
Still could be The Pro-Illegal Immigrant Crowd (which would contain many different “factions”), as well as it being “International Workers’ Day” - the Communist/socialist and Anarchists Favorite Holiday...
Hopefully they figure out which...
Thanks for the ping.
I sense it is a "Reichstag Fire" type set up. They will find some kind of "anti government" type (from the "extreme Right", either a convenient break for them--such as kids engaging in M-80s/Ash Can-type mischief, or a contrived patsy set up) and then backsplatter it all upon the Tea Party movement, tainting Conservative patriots everywhere. The MSM will drive this point home over and over again till we are sick of it.
CNN is already starting in on it, ever so slowly, every so subltely.
Stay tuned. Watch them very closely!

I wish that I did not agree with you, but I do.
There is always some idiot who wants his name in the paper and will say he did it, to get it there.
Can’t wait to see the surveillance cameras on this one...
I hope they’ve got some good leads from them, and the witnesses as well. I’m just catching up on what’s been reported today...
An MSNBC anchor has apparently come to the conclusion that it had to be some “stupid tea partier” because everyone knows the Muslims always build much better bombs... Seriously, this is what the guy said. It’s disgusting.
Here’s the deal though — Truth be told, even if they don’t believe it was an Islamic terrorist delivering the answer to a “Fatwah” against Viacom (where the SUV was parked - Viacom owns Comedy Central, which aired the South Park “Mohammed in a bear costume episodes they were threatened over)... Even if they DON’T believe that — this happened on MAY DAY which since the late 1800s has “belonged” to the Socialists, Communists, Anarchists, and Labor Unions as a beloved holiday “celebrating” “International Workers’ Day”.
Yesterday was ALSO a planned day of protest by the Pro-Illegal Immigration crowd. However, if they are suggesting that those were the folks who were the intended target (as would fit their narrative) the timing and placement of such a device doesn’t even FIT!
For the “journalists” (cough, cough) reporting on this I would like to remind them of the other FAILED attempts by KNOWN Radical Islamic Terrorists in the name of their “Jihad” against the West.
1. The failed plane bombing on Christmas
2. The folks who fried themselves trying to crash into the airport in London.
3. The failed car bombing (propane) in London that coincided with the airport crash.
4. Richard Reid — the FAILED “Shoe Bomber”
And the list continues...
Sorry — I know this should be expected given the rhetoric traveling in those circles (thank you BJ Clinton you jerk). However, it’s still makes me angry that they are actually trying this...
I’m really surprised they didn’t try this with the kid who just failed in that supposed “suicide” attempt on the NY Subway... Or have they tried to paint him as a “conservative” too???
Correction to my post to you yesterday.
It was parked outside of MTV Networks HQ - the company that owns Comedy Central. Sorry about the confusion.
Correction to my post to you earlier today — It was MTV Networks HQ not Viacom. MTV Networks is the parent company of Comedy Central which broadcasts South Park. Sorry for any confusion — don’t know why I was stuck on “Viacom”.
“Draw Mohammad Day” - - May 20, 2010 - Draw for freedom - draw for your children’s freedom.
Anyone have a direct phone # or email to MSNBC .. I always wonder why we post to each other instead of THEM that needs to hear what we have to say
The "anchor" should be fired. Period.
Not owning a tv set, is wonderful, look at all I have missed.

Give them time and they will do so.
lol — You definitely aren’t missing much!
We’ve got a TV, and more than four channels now thanks to digital, but we still don’t have cable, and don’t plan on getting it any time soon.
Any show we really want to watch I can usually find online — even if I have to wait a bit to see it. I don’t really think there are a whole lot of shows on nowadays that are worth watching...
All of my info. on the MSNBC report was from what another FReeper had said on another thread. :)
