Times Square Block Shut Down

NYPD closed off streets from 42nd to 47th along Broadway in New York City. Police shut down a block in the heart of Times Square Saturday night after receiving a call about a suspicious car fire, delaying some Broadway shows by more than an hour.

The call came in just after 6:30 and as of 9 p.m., 45th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues had not been opened. When police initially responded, they saw smoke coming out of the car but no fire.

Police said a bomb squad investigation was on the scene and that the car on fire was a sport utility vehicle had license plates that didn't match the make of the car, raising suspicions.

On one of the theater district's busiest nights, some shows, including "The Lion King," were delayed by an hour or more, according to the Broadway World website.

Oprah Winfrey was in attendance of the new hit "Fela," being shown at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on West 49th Street, and the production began on time and wasn't interrupted.

I understand completely. The hardest part of this is watching it all happen around us and feeling so overwhelmed, day after day, week after week. Do you realize that hardly a day goes by without some kind of disaster or new awful revelation that we have to absorb?

That is stressful beyond belief. Over the years, I've watched other countries live like this and wondered how a person stayed sane living with stress, and fear every single day.

I know the answer to that now and it is hope and faith. If it weren't for that...well I just don't know if it would be worth getting up everyday.

Yesterday I felt upbeat because I was emailing lawmakers about the AZ immigration law and felt like I was making a difference. Now tonight, a potential car bomb in Times Square....back to feeling helpless and frustrated again.

Hang in there. It is a horrible emotional roller coaster that we're enduring. Just hope, pray, and find every opportunity you can to do something/anything to put a dent in the situation..

Just got back from NYC through the Lincoln Tunnel. Didn’t see anything unusual but that ‘s 10 blocks away . Any time day or night there are a zillion people on the streets in that area.
Of course CBS will tell us it’s NOT related to terrorism and if they find people connected with the car bomb and they happen to be Islamic CBS will also never mention that either.
