Times Square Block Shut Down
By SEAN GARDINER and R.M. SCHNEIDERMAN
NYPD closed off streets from 42nd to 47th along Broadway in New York City. Police shut down a block in the heart of Times Square Saturday night after receiving a call about a suspicious car fire, delaying some Broadway shows by more than an hour.
The call came in just after 6:30 and as of 9 p.m., 45th Street between Seventh and Eighth avenues had not been opened. When police initially responded, they saw smoke coming out of the car but no fire.
Dustin Drankoski for the Wall Street Journal NYPD closed off streets from 42nd to 47th along Broadway in New York City. Police said a bomb squad investigation was on the scene and that the car on fire was a sport utility vehicle had license plates that didn't match the make of the car, raising suspicions.
On one of the theater district's busiest nights, some shows, including "The Lion King," were delayed by an hour or more, according to the Broadway World website.
Oprah Winfrey was in attendance of the new hit "Fela," being shown at the Eugene O'Neill Theatre on West 49th Street, and the production began on time and wasn't interrupted.

Maybe he is friends with Richard Reid
Well now, it's all coming together now, isn't it?
An exploding propane tank is big trouble. From some of the interviews, there was a small explosion but the main charge didn’t trigger. We dodged a biggie tonight.
Graham asked her if she thought the border in az was safe
Napolitano responded that the border was safer now than it has ever been
Too bad that “safer now than it has ever been” didn’t stop that police office in pinal co from getting shot at with an ak47 along with everything else including some helicopters that were there
My Pastor slipped and let me loose. I sank like a stone and waited. Only another Baptist would understand what a hoot that was. Happened when I was 8. Doubt there are many left to remember, but it replays in my mind everytime somebody get Baptised at church. LOL
....the one that was bombed by a bicyclist awhile back is in the center of TSQ....
Believe me, to make something go "BOOM" and to make damn sure it goes "BOOM" is not very hard to do.
The deal about there being smoke and a small fire that attracted attention seems suspicious. Something rigged to go boom with a detonator or blasting cap ain't going to smolder and attract attention, it will just go boom from the get-go.
I'm thinking propaganda, misdirected blame without a loss of life.....think controlled crisis.
Or what we had was Achmed who didn't know what the hell he was doing.....Thank the Lord.
If there a Tea related drink bottle in the trash nearby or litter, then yes.
It was Muslims targeting South Park and Comedy Central.
They’ll try to tie it to the tea party, but I’ll bet the police will catch the perps since the bomb didn’t go off.
Ok..now this may sound like a stupid question, but if this person’s intent was to give payback to South Park studios for the Muhammed episode, why strike on a Saturday night..isn’t the studio closed..why not wait til Monday when there would be people in the building.
I wonder how Jon Stewart will feel about muslims now that they tried to blow up his employer.
Army, The Lion King, Southpark.
Only the Broadway show would have actual people to kill at 6:30, of the three.

Thanks for the pings, Granny.
