Turnout a Bust at Pro-Illegal Immigration Marches; L.A. Protesters One-Tenth of 2006 Effort

Despite a coordinated hype campaign between left-wing pro-illegal immigration activists and the mainstream media, turnout was a bust at May Day marches in two bellwether American cities where crowds were much lower than expected. In Los Angeles, the turnout was a mere tenth of the half-million that marched there four years ago.

In a preview article published yestereday, Reuters said of the pending Los Angeles march:

Marches across the state on Saturday will show whether Latinos are energized. The standard will be the rallies in March 2006, when some 500,000 people took over downtown Los Angeles to oppose a tough federal bill that later failed.

The AP reported that police estimated the number of protesters in Los Angeles at 50,000, half of what was expected by organizers:

Police officials estimated about 50,000 demonstrators marched through downtown Los Angeles to demand immigration reform and to protest Arizona's tough new law against illegal immigrants.

Officer Rosario Herrera said the crowd peaked early Saturday afternoon and was estimated to have dwindled to about 30,000 by 2 p.m.

...Police had prepared for an anticipated 100,000 people.

In Dallas, where 100,000 were also expected to march, only 20,000 to 25,000 turned out, according to this AP report:

Organizers had estimated as many as 100,000 might attend the Dallas march. Police estimated between 20,000 and 25,000 gathered in the plaza outside City Hall. Organizers said thousands more participated in the march.

The May Day marches were already arranged by leftist groups across the country as a traditional communist day of agitation. The same leftist groups have been supporting amnesty for illegal aliens for years, making the marches the perfect fit for an instant nationwide protest against Arizona's new law targeting illegal aliens.

Respective turnout in the seventy other cities scheduled to have pro-illegal immigration marches today numbered in the high hundreds to well less than ten thousand, putting them well under the two million Tea Party protesters who demonstrated in cities and towns nationwide just two weeks ago on April 15th.

It appears that nationwide the pro-illegal immigration movement failed to match the 500,000 marchers they had in just one city, Los Angeles, four years ago.

If the AP says 50,000 - my guess it was about 20,000, if that.

Or maybe a lot of them have already self-deported because they can’t find a job.

If only the dems would do the same...

This may mean more Hispanics support the Arizona law than one might think and they did not turn out

As I said on another thread...don't delude yourself.

What's most likely is that they're nervous about retaliation, now that the Arizona law has been passed.

The number of people in the country illegally is grossly wrong. It's probably double the 12 million number. And that means that a lot of the people in these tantrums were illegals - who thought they could intimidate the gringos into backing down.

Now they see that isn't happening, and they are nervous.

Let's make them more so. Self deportation to that Nirvana they rhapsodize about - Mexico - will then ensue.

In about 3 months we will welcome huge turnouts in Phoenix. Hopefully Phoenix PD will have enough buses standing by.

Also, note that the marches were planned long before Brewer signed the new AZ immigration law.

"Planning for this year’s march has been in the works for months, police said."

If the economy wasn’t in the tank, heck, if the unemployment rate were even just 5 or 6 per cent there would have been more of these m’fers in the streets. As it is, the bad economy notwithstanding, I think these people realize now is not the time for pushing this. However if the government isn’t going to get serious about enforcing the existing immigration laws and securing the damn border these groups won’t give up.

Of course it failed because of three solid reasons. Number one, most American Hispanics are loyal, law abiding American citizens and want nothing to do with these Hate America” communist and left-wing protesters and their lock-step allies in the current Democrat Party. Number two, most American Hispanics know that POTUS Obama is living in a failed presidency. And....number three, POTUS Obama has thrown all Hispanics under the bus. There will be no immigration legislation this year courtesy of anti-American POTUS Barack Hussein Obama. At least, most Hispanics get it. Some of Obama’s remaining supporters will go down in flames with him and the Democrat Party!!! Minority folks, whoever they may be, ain’t on Obama’s favored list. The sooner American Blacks realize this, the better off they wil be.

Police officials estimated about 50,000 demonstrators (including 40,000 media and paid activists from SEIU) marched through downtown Los Angeles to demand immigration reform and to protest Arizona's tough new law against illegal immigrants.

Fix it. When satire and reality become one in the same.

“After all, in Texas, many Hispanic families have been here as long (if not longer) than whites — they are the quintessence of “natural born citizens”. Those who came here legally played by the rules and jumped through hoops to get in — something the illegals piss on.

The idiot politicians who pander to “Hispanics” are actually insulting them.”

Similarly Calif. has a lot of hispanic origin people, some who go back even to pre US statehood, coming down to present generations.

I have a cousin like that. He’s very conservative, and legal immigration is a highly valued aspect within my extended family (Hispanics and Italians).

But we have many ignorant people in America, who will group all spanish surname people together. And say disrespectful things.

When I was a teenager, I met my future wife, child of Italian immigrants. Young and dumb, I joked about the mafia, but they didn’t laugh.

My future in-laws weren’t mafia, they were doctors, lawyers, teachers, nuns, purple heart WWII paratrooper vets. And within their family were legal immigrant parents.

I have a cousin by marriage, who’s spanish ancestors were in California over 200 years ago, before Mexico.

He is very unhappy with people who look at his spanish last name, and presume he’s associated with illegal wetback immigrants.

His dad was career Air Force.

Don’t fall for the MSM hype. These protests were planned long before the law in Arizona was passed, or even written as a bill. This is the annual communist Mayday parade, something we never used to have at all in the USA but would see in other countries on May 1st.

Illegal immigrants felt more empowered under GWB than they do now under Hussein. How ironical...
