Baseball, America's favorite pastime, has officially entered the debate over Arizona's tough new immigration law.
This morning City Attorney Dennis Herrera and Supervisor David Campos sent a three-page letter to Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig to request that he pull next year's the All-Star game from Chase Field in Phoenix.
On the same day, the Major League Baseball Players Association issued a statement calling for immediate repeal or modification of the law.
The union's executive director, Michael Weiner, said hundreds of international players, both on the Arizona Diamondbacks and visiting teams, as well as their families, live in and travel to Arizona during spring training and regular-season play.
''All of these players, as well as their families, could be adversely affected, even though their presence in the United States is legal,'' Weiner said.

Instead of blaming 22 million illegal invaders, let's blame law-abiding lawmakers affirming the federal law of a sovereign nation.
MLB should stay the hell out of it. Shame on them. Buying a diamondback jersey or at least a hat. shameful
I haven’t watched or listened to a baseball game for at least 5 years. This isn’t going to bring me back, that’s for sure. Bunch of prima donnas.
Scroom!
Gee, guess there’s a few illegal immigrants playing ball. Whudathunk.
Who asked them?
This is how porous the world wants the US to be. Weak, open, undefended, willing to pay for anyone’s wants, with millions given to foreigners who can throw a little ball.
I’ll never go to a game again.
I have just begun my own personal boycott of MLB. They care more about illegal aliens than they do me? Fine. They can KMA!!!
I’d like to see stadiums sold out in every city the Diamondbacks play in support of the Arizona crackdown.
If you as me, there are more prima donna players in baseball than in all the other three major sports combined.
We Don’t Care, We will do what is necessary to rid our State of the Criminal Invaders. Personally I gave up on Pro Sports a long time ago, right after they gave up MORALITY.
Not likely. Professional baseball players have little difficulty getting the necessary visa to play in the United States.
COMPLETELY OUT OF HAND AND OUT OF REALITY.
STOP THE NONSENSE NOW.
BOYCOTT BASEBALL IF WE HAVE TO.
How about an EMPTY SEAT SUNDAY?
Shut up and just play the game.
I am quickly becoming an Arizona Diamondbacks fan.
So let them play baseball in Mexico.
They need to shut up and do what they do... play a game... and leave reality to the adults.
So.....do we have to show tickets when we go to a game? What if we cross a desert to get there?
“Dennis Herrera and Supervisor David Campos”
These damned Swedes should mind their own business.
M.L.B can go to H.E.L.L.
