Perry criticizes Ariz. law, won't adopt for Texas By Eric Zimmermann - 04/30/10 12:45 PM ET
Texas Gov. Rick Perry (R) is not a fan of the new Arizona immigration law and said he would not consider adopting it for Texas.
In a statement released by his office, Perry said the Arizona provision would distract law enforcement officers from their basic priorities.
"[S]ome aspects of the law turn law enforcement officers into immigration officials by requiring them to determine immigration status during any lawful contact with a suspected alien, taking them away from their existing law enforcement duties, which are critical to keeping citizens safe," Perry said.
"Our focus must continue to be on the criminal elements involved with conducting criminal acts against Texans and their property. I will continue to work with the legislative leadership to develop strategies that are appropriate for Texas.:
While Perry said he "fully recognize[s] and support a states right and obligation to protect its citizens" the Arizona law "would not be the right direction for Texas."
Yeah, I agree it is.
Perry is not on Obama’s “Council of Governors,” is he?

Missouri Gov. Jeremiah W. (Jay) Nixon
Maryland Gov. Martin OMalley
North Carolina Gov. Beverly Eaves Perdue
South Dakota Gov. Michael Rounds
Notice that Gov. Brewer of Arizona is. Hmmmm. It is also interesting that he appointed the Govs of S. Dakota, N. Carolina, Virginia and Oklahoma.
Freedom In The 50 States: An index of personal and economic freedom. (http://www.statepolicyindex.com/?page_id=143)
It was authored by William Ruger and Jason Sorens of the Mercatus Center of George Mason University.(hat tip on this link to Windflier)
The states with the best freedom rating in this study are:
TX, AZ, CO, ID, ND, SD, MO, TN, VA, NH (Oklahoma is close behind in the 2nd of 5 quintiles)
The Governor’s Council is comprised of 5 Republicans and 5 Dems. Look at the overlap in the Govs’ Council of Republicans and the list of states with the most freedom. BO chose the Govs of some of the most conservative of Republican run states. Looks like he didn’t find it necessary to include Perry the rino. Hmmmmm.
The short description of what this gov appointment is about is stated as: “The council will help coordinate state and federal efforts pertaining to the National Guard, homeland defense and civil support activities.”
CFP had an interesting viewpoint on it when BO created it here:

By the way, Texas is the largest state geographically, population wise and has the largest number of electoral votes of the ten “most free” states - and it is on the coast. Why, if Obama was attempting to exert some kind of control or advantage over the governors he chose, would he not choose the governor of Texas to be on the council?
Dead man walking
“TEXANs can already use LETHAL FORCE to protect their homes, land, family...”
We can also carry a gun in the car without a CHL. Having lived in Houston all my life and seen it turn into a barrio, it’s the anomaly when you don’t own a gun. My glock is ready on a moment’s notice.
Another stupid politician who is blatantly disregarding the clear will of the majority of American citizens.
Perry just spit in the eyes of the vast majority of Texans. Well, guv, we Texans don’t take kindly to politicians doing that to us, and we won’t forget it. You picked the wrong folks to spit on, mister.
Puhleeeeze......
Perry never had a shot at the WH anyway. The country won't be in the mood to elect another Texan to the presidency for decades to come.
Damn, I know just how you feel. I'm just livid that I'm going to be forced to vote for this RINO.
I (like probably millions of other Texans) am sitting here at this very moment trying to figure out what to do about this conundrum.
I can see a lot of brainstorming at Tea Party meetings coming.
Go! Windflier, go!
“He is a RINO who knows how to sound conservative”
That’s the worst kind...
Perry is an ass-kisser! For SHAME!
He joins the ranks of Jeb Bush, his brother and father, Marco Rubio, etc.. Vote these pieces of crap out!
Vote for the ‘true’ conservative not the Party.
No such bill will pass. This isn’t Arizona. If the guy on the radio was correct the other day, Texas has the largest Hispanic population in the country, percentage wise. Either way, Texans has a whole have always embraced Hispanics to a larger degree than Arizona or California.
Reckon Perry or other libtards ever heard of WWII??? Did he or other Americans lose anyone in the aftermath or during the Pearl Harbor attack???? It’s useless trying to understand fartfaces ain’t it????
As a Texan this is crap! Those guys are taking over the Houston area and that’s why I will be at the counter protest today!!!
lol
Bush is NOT a Texan, he was born in Connecticut.
Moving to Texas and buying a ranch doesn’t make you a Texan.
No one cares or remembers where he was born. He identifies with Texas, the country considers him to be a Texan, and that's all that really matters.
Are you hoping to see Rick Perry in the White House?
