Amazing what the actual enforcement of laws on the books can do eh?
Many day laborers like Diaz say they will leave Arizona because of the law, which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally and directs police to question people about their immigration status if there is reason to suspect they are illegal immigrants.~~~Supporters of the law hope it creates jobs for thousands of Americans. An estimated 100,000 illegal immigrants have left Arizona in the past two years as it cracked down on illegal immigration and its economy was especially hard hit by the Great Recession. A Department of Homeland Security report on illegal immigrants estimates Arizona's illegal immigrant population peaked in 2008 at 560,000, and a year later dipped to 460,000.
The law's supporters hope the departure of illegal immigrants will help dismantle part of the underground economy here and create jobs for thousands of legal residents in a state with a 9.6 percent unemployment rate.
Kavanagh says day labor is generally off the books, and that deprives the state of much-needed tax dollars. "We'll never eliminate it, just like laws against street prostitution," he says. "But we can greatly reduce the prevalence."
The AP article tries to insinuate, once again, that police can detain a person for just looking illegal which is complete and utter baloney.

That is what happened when Oklahoma passed their Immigration Bill which at the time was the toughest on the books. Illegals left the State.
(See tagline)
Great. They’ll be heading up here to Oregon.
As if unemployment wasn’t wretched here already.
Democrat nightmare: Arizona immigration law passes...unemployment drops. Scary if that caught on.
Just make sure they head south.
>which also makes it a state crime to be in the U.S. illegally
It’s sad that:
a) you have to pass laws to enforce existing laws,
b) [apparently] people believe that “be[ing] in the U.S. illegally” ISN’T a crime,
and
c) this sentence portion even exists.
They are moving up to the Northwest.
Just watch. The existing illegals in other states are going to be angry with the aliens fleeing AZ. There will be riots for day labor jobs in CA.
Where are they leaving to?
Or, all head west.
To San Francisco.
“What are you gonna do? Deport half a million people?”

Good. The Governor took control with a simple solution and it’s working. How come the Fed couldn’t do it????
Unemployment rate in Arizona: soon to be 6%
Unemployment rate in California: soon to be 15%
The gift that keeps on giving! Don’t forget the Arizona Health Dept will also be pleased knowing that the incidents of AIDS will go down once S.F. residents fulfill their boycott pledge.
The only thing that sucks, is that those of us outside AZ will have to deal with them...
Because the Feds don't want to do it.
After a time, people will realize that Arizona did the right thing and other states will also follow suit!
who ever said the criminal aliens thought Arizona was their destination is short sighted.
