The US Catholic church on Tuesday condemned Arizona's "draconian" new immigration law, saying it would alienate immigrant communities across the United States.
"This new law, although limited to the State of Arizona, could have impact throughout the nation in terms of how members of our immigrant communities are both perceived and treated," Bishop John Wester said in a statement issued on behalf of the US Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB).

Excuse me bishop, but this is the realm of ceasar.
Ugh sometimes I regret being Catholic.
The “immigrant communities” in the US are fine. I get the whole “human rights” angle of the Church, but they need to immigrate LEGALLY!!!
That pesky little “render unto Caesar” thing.....
Of course it bothers me. But unfortunately the bishops don’t listen to me.
If you look at history, virtually all of the Catholics in America were Democrats in the early days, because most of them were Irish or Italian or Polish or other ethnic minorities, and most were discriminated against by the WASP establishment. Most of them were working class, and many belonged to unions.
But the Dem party started to change, and became more interested in things like abortion than in the rights of workers in any meaningful sense. Gradually, Catholics began to go over to the Republican side after the passage of Roe v. Wade. From being maybe 90% Dems, Catholics gradually shifted to something like 50-50. And studies show that those Catholics who go to Mass regularly are much more likely to vote pro-life, i.e. Republican.
The presence of dissenters in the Church after Vatican 2 complicated matters. But on the whole, Catholics are more and more disenchanted with the Democrats.
McCain was a lousy candidate, having insulted both Catholics and Evangelicals in 2000 and then again in 2008. And Obama managed to pull the wool over a lot of people’s eyes. Still, he only got a marginal majority of the Catholic vote, largely because McCain refused to attack him on the abortion business, and the press covered it up.
It would be a big mistake to write off either Evangelicals OR Catholics. Conservatives need both in order to win. And we can hope to continue educating Catholics on what the Dem party now stands for, and thus to continue moving them over toward the conservative side where, frankly, they belong.
It is this kind of crap that really pi$$es me off.

Here we go again, they’re being called immigrants once again.
Ping!
I'll salute a Wild Irish Rose to that.
We might have an argument if you had actually read, and actually responded, to my post.
Those who do not attend mass weekly are not Catholics, however they may self identify to exit pollsters. Among those Catholics who actually are Catholics -- that is, fulfill their weekly obligation -- McCain won by nine points.
More to the point, the people being maligned on this forum as being no better than the US Catholic Episcopate are solid conservatives and fellow FReepers. They take the Apostles' Creed every week, and they take it seriously, so baiting them on this forum -- or any conservative venue -- is stupid.
You want to talk about peripheral issues, fine. New Immigrants voted for big government; nothing surprising or new. Roosevelt fooled a lot of people -- including by his own admission my Dad, who was young and foolish at the time.
Here are four reliable Catholic votes: Scalia, Thomas, Roberts and Alito. Know your FRiends.
Sorry but those people that you deny, are Catholics, you try to thread so many needles, that it is clear you just want to sell an agenda, your efforts are what people on the street call a con man’s rap.
Every week there is a new story about the Vatican, the Pope, or some Bishops siding with the environmentalists, the UN, the anti-Americans, the anti-war loons, with the healthcare bill, with the open boarders crowd, Catholic colleges asking liberals to speak, Catholic nuns endorsing Obamacare.
I just goes on and on.
There is just too much evidence that they enable, encourage, and agitate for enemies of this nation.
That is weird phrasing, I used the word Protestants, but if you want to narrow it down to Evangelicals, they are the most conservative people in America, why would they want to "write" themselves off?
Catholics have not become a 50/50 vote.
McCain did great with Protestants and won Evangelicals by a HUGE margin, and Catholics did not vote "marginally" for Obama, it was a 54% to 45% Obama run away.

So the church thinks it’s OK to steal my money to give to a thief. Where is that in the bible?
Cardinal Roger Mahony
is the said idiot! He is in bed with socialist/marxists. He has been a supporter of them for a very long time. He has been destroying the Catholic Mass and promoting the “social justice” agenda. check out this video on you tube and spread the video!

When they start calling them refugees, then does the UN get involved? This nightmare could turn into a sequel.
This apparently is more important than saving babies lives. It is also more important than dealing with those who champion murder of the innocents and call themselves Catholic.
The hierarchy stands accused of being compicit in the murder of the innocents. Herod was pro-life compared to these guys.
