Daley: Send gun industry lawsuit to World Court (frightening)

Six years after the state Supreme Court dismissed his $433 million lawsuit against the gun industry, Mayor Daley today called for a change of venue — to the World Court normally reserved for disputes between nations and crimes against humanity.

Wrapping up the sixth annual Richard J. Daley Global Cities Forum, Daley convinced more than a dozen of his counterparts from around the world to approve a resolution urging "redress against the gun industry through the courts of the world" in The Hague.

"This is coming from international mayors. They're saying, 'We’re tired of your guns, America. ... We don't want those anymore because guns kill and injure people,' " Daley told a news conference at the University of Illinois at Chicago.

So do I. What a cesspool. I had to spend a couple of months there one winter and it was the worst time of my life. I might as well have been in jail. Cloudy, windy, cold, gray skies for weeks at a time, dirty,... UGH

'It was my understanding that A conspiracy to overthrow the US Constitution was TREASON. That is exactly what is happening, or am I missing something???"

You're thinking of sedition or seditious conspiracy.

The first thing that MUST happen is that the entire gun industry unite and do a "Ronnie Barret" on Chicago, and the state of Illinois.

Firmly state that the companies will no longer sell guns or ammunition to any city or state agency, especially the police departments. And they need to refuse to service any firearms currently held by those agencies.

If Daly doesn't like guns on "his" streets, the quickest way to get guns off the street is to disarm the police.

BTW, wasn't there a recent posting about some Chicago city council members wanting to put national guard troops on the streets?

I didn't see that, but it's certainly possible. I definitely remember something similar being suggested just a couple years ago when Chicago was having it's summertime crime-wave. I think there were more people being killed in Chicago, than there were people being killed in Iraq, each day.

I lived in Illinois, outside of Chicago (Plainfield, actually) for two-plus years.

HIDEOUS state.

Hey, Daley, why not team up with Sen Sphincter and run it through the Scottish courts?

Hey, maybe they'll accept the Irish court rulings, banning abortion in the US!

Isn't it funny how they only use the examples they agree with?

They have no jurisdiction in the US, period. Mega-fail for Daley.

I’m in Maine so I don’t have all the details.

The aviation chat boards were going ballistic at the time.

I don’t know if the park was ever built.

As you mentioned, there were planes stranded at Meigs Field when Daley’s henchmen destroyed the runways in the middle of the night. From what I understand, the stranded aircraft used taxi ways adjacent to the runways to take off and fly elsewhere. I think a few planes were removed from the airport by truck.

I think you’re right. I’m assuming he’s talking about the Internationl Court of Justice but they can only hear a case submitted by a state (as in nation) not a mayor. Another state could go after a non-state party in the US but only if they believe they are violating US law. Since there is no evidence of that, the only recourse Daley has is to convince another state to go after the US for...something, I don’t even know what pretense could be used so that’s why I doubt anything will come of this.

When it comes to international arms dealing, there is nothing the US does that any nation with an arms manufacturer isn’t already doing or trying to do.

That’s right WI has it’s own corruption and crime they don’t need to import IL’s.

My suggestion, already posted on another website:
How about a Daley-esque end run? The NRA (for instance) applies for a federal court order prohibiting residents of the mayors’ cities from entering the US, on the public-safety grounds that their own governments consider them too dangerous to be allowed the sort of access to weapons they’d have here?

I suspect the mayors’ response would be quite amusing. And if the NRA is unwilling to make the effort, there’s always the reliably obstreperous GOA.

Nutter from philly said: “He added, “People are being killed every day in the United States of America with illegal weapons. I love the 2nd Ammendment. [But], I have a 1st Ammendment right not to be shot.”

Effing retards! Wall off our major cities and let them kill each other.
