SACRAMENTO (CBS 5 / AP) ― Meg Whitman, the Republican front-runner in the California gubernatorial primary, said Tuesday that Arizona is taking the wrong approach to illegal immigration with its tough new law.
The former eBay chief executive said there are more effective approaches than requiring law enforcement officers to question people about their status if they suspect they are in the country illegally.
"I think there's just better ways to solve this problem," Whitman said in a telephone interview with The Associated Press.
"I'm a big believer in, 'What are the two or three things that will make the biggest difference here?"'

Rubio came out against it as well, get used to it folks. They are NOT going to support that law in states like Florida and California.
"As opposed to Moonbeam Redux? "
This is the primary, not the general.
Tom McClintock has endorsed Steve Poizner.

PLEASE, California, don’t do it!!!! Meg is a McCainiac!
Whitman also wants to ban the admission of undocumented students to state-funded colleges.
These are not entirely bad ideas. However, the state does not have resources to properly patrol the border, a job the fed gov't refuses to do. I like the third idea -- immensely.
Politically, her response was stupid. The CA problem (different electorate) is different than the AZ problem. She should have avoided the AZ issue completely. She should have also pointed out explicit steps the state of CA could do to seal their borders if that is her proposal. Kicking the problem to the fed gov't is stupid -- more victim mentality.
Of course, the AP is doing everything it can do to push the marxist policies of this administration. Part of how this information was presented is no doubt by the design of the AP.
I’m not keen on her message, but she is a an aspiring politician, who must say what she needs to say if she wants to be elected, and it is California....

Yet.
LOL, see if this helps your nose a little.

At this point I hope Meg Whitman loses in November if she is, indeed, the Republican nominee. I would prefer to leave California to an honest communist Democrat than one in a Republican costume.
How would we know if other approaches are “more effective” if we’ve never tried any of them?
So, why have you kept this solution secret? Let's us know.
This reminds me of John Kerry's secret plan to win the Iraq War and bring home the troops in 2004. He kept his fabulous plan secret and we still have troops in Iraq.
What is it with these politicians and keeping their great ideas to themselves?
“I think there’s just better ways to solve this problem,”
...maybe Meggie should take a stroll in southern AZ and go on a picnic! There’s beautiful countryside there where American USED to go for a walk and relax. Now it’s overrun with rapists and drug smuggling gangs from Mehico. Go ahead Meggie. Go down there and figure out a “better way to solve this problem”.
R&d? no. not really doable. Too many of them. Illegal surreptitious entry needs to become a felony rather than a misdemeanor and employers then need to go to jail and their companies fined out of business.
FL’s house and senate is Repub but RINO Repub. They need to be replaced. Crist is crap but Rubio is pro-illegal even though he claims he is not.
All mouth and insults but no working solutions. Typical liberal.
Agree with that. I think the region was shocked by the recent cold-blooded murder of that Arizona rancher on his own land.
IIRC, the bigger issue in his area was drug gangs bringing in packs of the stuff on foot. Surprise one of them and it can turn violent fast. A product not only of failing to secure the border, but our defeat in the war on drugs.
It’s been a war zone for years. lots of money to be made in many ways crossing the border.
The recent murder certainly helped to draw the spotlight back to Arizona and the illegals issue.. and having the bill delivered shortly thereafter.. divine providence or ??
this is far from settled policy.. The Supremes will eventually have to get involved.. what a waste of time .. and lives.
Gee, a RINO from Kalifornia. Now ain’t THAT a wonder!
Arnold in a dress. Except worse. I hope the dingbat gets creamed.
Your being sarcastic, right?
I was already sold on “donated money to Barbara Boxer”.
