Arizona Governor Jan Brewer last week signed a new law into effect that authorizes local police to stop and verify the immigration status of anyone they suspect of being an illegal immigrant. A new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey finds that 60% of voters nationwide favor such a law, while 31% are opposed.

Seventy-seven percent (77%) of Republicans support the law along with 62% of voters not affiliated with either major party. Democratic voters are evenly divided on the measure.

At the same time, however, 58% of all voters are at least somewhat concerned that “efforts to identify and deport illegal immigrants will also end up violating the civil rights of some U.S. citizens.” That figure includes 29% who are Very Concerned about possible civil rights violations.....

That’s a valid point, but the Banks aren’t rolling out the red carpet for the robbers.

Unscrupulous businessmen are, your neighbors are hiring them.

If you go out to eat, you are putting money in illegal aliens pockets.

I am not happy for the problems Windflier encountered. I think it is a damn shame, and I believe WF ought to find someone or something to help him....The Christian Legal Societyhas 40 chapters throughout the United States. Perhaps they can assist our friend.

I can tell you this: illegals need to be excused from our society. Legal immigration, yes. Illegal immigration, NO.

Yes, we may pay more for goods and services. I think in the LONG RUN we'll pay less, because we also won't be paying medical and education and legal bills that illegal immigration costs our society.

If we are not a nation of laws, we become a nation dependent upon the desires of men. And that is dangerous.

The illegals are breaking a number of laws and are stealing from us. Yes, the employers have to be held accountable, but the illegals are still all criminals.

My apologies for misreading the tone of your post. You were clear, I just was careless. You & your wife are in my prayers.

I appreciate that. It's why I didn't get snarly in my response to you.

I'm just one of hundreds of thousands of small business people who've had their businesses cut off at the knees by the effects of illegal aliens in the workforce. In my trade, nearly all of my old contractor buddies have suffered the same fate as I have in the last five years.

The market distortions and long-term ill effects of rampant illegal immigration have now come home to roost, and they are devastating to all Americans.

You know, when Libs complain about Fast Food joints selling bad things to customers, they are defended on this board by saying, that’s what the customer wants. Drug Cartels are just meeting the demands of their customers.

The laws of capitalism are more like the laws of physics, you can’t legislate either of them away.

If you happen to be questioned by LEO if you have a driver’s license they can pull it up in the computer. Basically the same thing you would do now if you were walking wherever you live and for some reason LEO decided to question you.

They also may have some questions for you and you decide whether to answer- just as you would where you live. There is nothing new in the way this law will be enforced- it is just a different law.

Just wait until the price of childcare, cleaning, construction, restaurants and lawn care goes through the roof.

Considering that taxpayers are funding illegals' children's education, welfare, health care in our emergency rooms, food stamps, and the costs of crime - your getting your lawn cut for a low price is costing the rest of us a fortune.

we have a law, but without local law enforcement and the million eyes and ears they bring, it is impossible to enforce.

Good point.

Just how wide a net do people think I.C.E. can cast? They make high profile raids at big factories, which gets news coverage, but no intelligent person believes for a moment that they're making a dent in illegal immigration on the whole. There simply aren't enough of them to do so.

It all comes back to the fact that our government is tossing pennies at a problem that requires dollars to fix. It's about making a real estimation of effort to resolve the problem.

It's apparent to me that the oligarchy in Washington doesn't want this problem fixed, otherwise, they would have spent what they needed to build the border fence, identify and deport existing illegals, cut off all aid to illegal aliens, and done something to streamline and speed up the legal immigration process.

By flatly refusing to do the job that the majority of Americans want them to do, they've forced the individual states to do what they can to fix the problem themselves.

It's come down to one thing -- the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches of our government are in a state of abject TREASON to The People.

We gotta fire them all, folks.

If the Chinese Army, i.e. "illegal" invaders walked in enmasse and commandeered our schools and hospitals, but life still went on in some fashion for you and I, would we be complicit?

THEY CAME FIRST for the Communists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

THEN THEY CAME for the Jews, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Jew.

THEN THEY CAME for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

THEN THEY CAME for me and by that time no one was left to speak up."

Cool. I was just wondering about the basis for establishing citizenship or residency.

Its a crying shame that a state has to enforce the Federal Laws the Federales won’t...

I’m still confused. I’m a citizen. If I’m walkin’ along in my shorts and t-shirt, and don’t have my wallet on me, how do I prove citizenship?

I am guessing that if you don't speak with a Mexican accent and you aren't breaking any laws or hanging out with illegals that you won't be asked for proof. I posted a link to the actual law above.

“Just imagine that a cop stops someone who turns out to be a lawful citizen, then oops, I see a gun in that car. Do you have a conceal carry license?”

Not a problem. Open carry without a license is lawful in Arizona. Concealed carry without a special license soon will be.

And if you do anything wrong while on public roads, the police already have the right to search for further
evidence of lawbreaking.

“We are continually stopped at roadblocks in AZ dare we leave our house.”

I’m not near any border patrol checkpoints...but get the irony of this. I live very near the Ca/Oregon border and cross it often. EVERY time I enter California, I have to stop for inspection...can’t bring fruit, vegies, plants...there might be a BUG!

And THEY guard it RIGHTEOUSLY....in BROKE California!

HELLO!! GOP members (McCain,Graham,Newt, Steele, et al) of the squatter support squad! You can win with Republicans and Independents!

I swear the GOP doesn’t want to win.

And I believe the figures are higher, if people actually understood the issue instead of this twisted media.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Arizona law. The Federal government should go after the cities in this country that officially refuse to enforce the law.

LOL! Sheriff Joe would do it too. If O stays out of Arizona from now on, we’ll know!

That’s right, LOL, I’ve sent relatives away with my home-grown citrus, not a bug anywhere, no mold, nada, all organically grown, only for them to have it confiscated at the CA-AZ border.

The jack-boots there suck, excuse my language. And I’m sure they wouldn’t dare hassle any “immigrants” (gag me)....

"You need to read the federal law that is already on the books... The AZ law just copies it for the most part."

I just watched the Hannity show tonight and they had a legal expert on to talk about the Arizona law. It appears that they can only stop you for very specific reasons such as being in a known smuggling corridor or if they pull you over and you have a lot of people in your car (don't know if there's an exact number) and things such as that. I'm feeling more secure about this law the more I hear about it.
