When it comes to racism, our country remains awkward about trying to define what it is and when it really happens.
Racism isn't what it used to be. Back in the day, it was horrible in-your-face humiliation hurled for reasons that included fear, insecurity, hate or an utter lack of decency.
Today, the word "racism" is used so flippantly in politics that its true heinous intent often is diluted.
Race has taken political center-stage once more with generalizations that all people who participate in tea party events are racists because they oppose President Barack Obama's policies.
Racism also often is cited by Washington insiders as the reason for the downward trajectory of Obama's public approval.
Yet racism has nothing to do with Obama's falling numbers -- or, for that matter, those of Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele, who also is black.

I wish ....i am sick of hearing it
I blame ourselves...
we let it “work” for so long, we trained them to use it in every case.
Anyone who did not vote for hopey/changey is a racist. As far as Mike Steele, he’s a republican, so he cannot be black.
“The only reason you’re calling me a racist is because I’m white. How dare you?!”
there has to be a stopping point.
I think we’re seeing the beginning of the end of the race card’s effectiveness.
People know that they aren’t racist, especially when criticizing and speaking out against blatant fascism,
and they are beginning to see that the race issue is
simply a shield to give liberalism a free pass.
There is and when the race card is played, I tune out or stop reading.
When columnists like Leonard Pitts tries to play the race card, They lose. Simple isn't it?
A great joke on the white race is the tanning tax. Only whites need pay.
America is rejecting the race-card, there is simply the usual lag between the Media and Main Street, so it appears that the average American still gives a damn...
Or
I have no irrational prejudice against dark-skinned people, only a rational contempt for thin-skinned people.
You know.... The ones who want a PASS on their character because of the color of their skin.
I said this back in the campaign and right after the election. This charge of racism everytime you turn around or state a negative opinion of Obama and his policies is just going to dilute the term and make racism lose all meaning.
PLEASE FORWARD these links to anyone who has been lied to by the media and politicians about the Tea Party Movement, which of course is everybody.
The True Face of the Tea Partiers
The ridiculous premise and conceit that the race-baiters use is astonishingly enough that if Obama where totally white, there would be nobody out protesting. Sure, conservatives would LOVE!!! a president who has nationalized two car companies, is trying to control executive pay, is trying to nationalize the health-care industry, and has big plans for more big government in our lives. We’d LOVE!!! a white president who did those things. The race-baiters are out of their everlovin’ minds.
The race card is simply a shield behind which to implement their fascism.
I think were seeing the beginning of the end of the race cards effectiveness.
I agree. The Libs seem utterly stumped and frustrated that playing the race card has failed to derail the tea parties or to tamp down on criticisms of Lord Obama.
It can however motivate the alienated hard-core to riot in the streets in November. That seems to be what the Obama is angling for now.
Racism......the “new” witchcraft...........
They can go ahead and riot and burn down their own neighborhoods,
causing “hundreds of dollars in damages”...
But, by the time they get done killing each other and looting every store out of existance in their neighborhoods,
the “neighborhood watch committees” in the suburbs will have ample warning to post their “crossing guards” at the entrances to their own neighborhoods.
