The fight over Senate Bill 1070 took to the streets of downtown Phoenix, as riot Police were called to the Capitol to control an unruly group of protesters.
Witnesses say a group protesting against SB1070 began to fight with a man who was for the controversial immigration bill.
Police tried escorting that man away from the scene, fearing for his safety, when they too came under attack by people throwing items, including water bottles.
A young man was arrested during that melee.
Things calmed down moments later, but riot Police remained at the capital to maintain some sort of order.
Earlier in the day, Arizona Gov. Jan Brewer signed SB1070 into law,.

Give him a break, Theo. He is just trying to be a little different, and I think that is fine.
Just what I said when the news of the protest came on this evening. Round them up and send them back to Mexiko.(i know)
The illegals are rioting. Good time to SHOOT them all, and check their immigration status.
There, fixed it for you.
Thanks.
You must live in California or New Mexico because AZ has been losing plenty of illegals.
But..but... They couldn’t have been rioting and attacking police... These illegal immigrants are sooo harmless! ;-/ We’re supposed to throw open our borders, our arms, our homes... To what? Or who? These people who riot and promote violence more than any other group with the exception of Muslims? Actually, I think the so-called supporters of immigration reform are probably worse than the illegal immigrants themselves.
Ping!
Violence at today’s protest...any surprise?
Yeah. That it took so long to happen...
Sweet!
I think the 240B has replaced the M-60, but that was a fine weapon!
Sure it is...
After they go home they can apply to LEGALLY immigrate to the US, then they can work, own property, drive cars etc. LEGALLY.
I'm going to have to agree disagree with you and agree with the poster that said the little box around the comment should NOT be used.
If everyone starts doing it, it is going to be a mess on this board. Remember when word processors came out and people figured out all the things they could do with the text? Do you want FR to start looking like this?
I Agree Wholeheartedly. FreeRepublic discussion BOARDS should never end up Looking like this. It is the content of the message that is the discussion, not how pretty some1 thinks they can make their text look.
Before Mexico became as dangerous as it is lately, that is exactly what was happening. People were going home when the economy tanked and work dried up. But...
Now there are kidnappings going on down there. Anyone that was in the U.S. and banked some money has a high likleyhood of being held for ransom.
Families that get money sent to them from the U.S. are having a family member kidnapped and then a message is sent to the relative living in the U.S. to send payment.
It is going to take much more incentive than whay you point out for them to want to go back home.
You also forget one significant point - many people do. They are not just the employees. They are the employers. The days of Mexicans coming here and taking meanial jobs are long gone. They are you pool repair and supply company, the company you purchased your satellite service from, the guy that sold you your furniture, that owns the company that supplies pallets to you company...you name it.
That is a long, many year process.
Attrition through enforcement. But even that won’t work until our borders are EFFECTIVELY secured.
The whole defeatist ‘round ‘em up’ argument originated by the pro-amnesty crowd.
If our current immigration laws are enforced, no jobs, no medical care, no Federal or State benefits...along with no banking privileges, no mortgages or auto loans...they’ll have NO CHOICE but to leave. Those who refuse should be rounded up, placed in camps along the border, forced to build a double fence, and THEN deported.
Ooh my eyes.
But saying this as politely as I can, it is delusional to think that what you suggest (rounded up, placed in camps along the border, forced to build a double fence, and THEN deported) is going to happen. It feels good to say it but it is an impossibility.
The Republicans and Democrats in power over the last four decades have created an impossible mess. You can not wish back time as if the mess never happened.
