Republicans are stepping up their criticism of the Securities and Exchange Commission following reports that senior agency staffers spent hours surfing pornographic websites on government-issued computers while they were supposed to be policing the nation's financial system.
California Rep. Darrell Issa, the top Republican on the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee, said it was "disturbing that high-ranking officials within the SEC were spending more time looking at porn than taking action to help stave off the events that put our nation's economy on the brink of collapse."
He said in a statement Thursday that SEC officials "were preoccupied with other distractions" when they should have been overseeing the growing problems in the financial system.
The SEC's inspector general conducted 33 probes of employees looking at explicit images in the past five years, according to a memo obtained by The Associated Press.

I'd much rather these incompetents go on with their porn surfing than do their jobs. The economy will be much safer that way.
perfect solution - remove their computers - give them a typewriter and a slide ruler. remember Obama needed to give the governement a stimulus so he ordered a pornfest, it was supposed to be a cornfest, but in all Obama’s excitement of being the “One” he had a little extra excitement the little blue Pill - Viagra and Enzyte. the reason he wanted to shut down Fox News is that the Enzyte commercials did not deliver what was promised, Michelle goy upset that he could not perform as the most powerful man in the world.
FIRE ALL NON CONSERVATIVE FEDERAL EMPLOYEES... BUILD CONCENTRATION CAMPS TO HOUSE THE LEFT... PURGE COMMUNISM FROM OUR LIVES PERMANENTLY... I TOO HAVE A DREAM!
Thanks for allowing me to vent.

Should the employees have been doing it? No. Should they be punished or fired? Yes. Having said that, I don’t see how this is an issue that the GOP can get mileage out of. Its political junk food. Keep the focus on the obscene increases in government spending and entitlement expansion. Then again, way too many Republicans in Congress are comfortable with increases in government spending so they focus on distractions like this.
I wish the GOP would ramp up some attacks over Obama’s rampaging Bolshevik Socialism as opposed to getting all riled-up over a few overpaid idiot bureaucrats watching porn at their desks (which, if truth be known, is probably what most government bureaucrats are doing all day anyhow)
16% surfing porn sited in 2006? Unbelievable, and no one got fired! Throw the bums out in 2010, all of them.
You’re right. They should be fired. But, thanks to the unions, they have virtual immunity. It’s almost impossible to fire career government employees, including the six-figure accountants and lawyers entrenched for decades at the SEC and every other regulatory agency.
Though it’s right for Issa and Grassley or anyone else to make a stink about this, it’s only going to wind up being political theatre unless something drastic is done to dismantle the existing career bureaucrat system.
In the crystal ball I see ‘paid administrative leave’.
I had wondered what kind of porn it was. The answer might provide some interesting associations.
