TMZ has learned Kal Penn -- aka Kumar from that "White Castle" movie -- was robbed at gunpoint early this morning while walking in a neighborhood in Washington D.C.
Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Penn claims a man carrying a gun approached him around 1:20 AM and took his wallet and other personal property.
We're told Penn immediately reported the incident to authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter.
Multiple calls to Penn's rep were not returned.

How appropriate - It seems nothing has changed in DC since the last time I was there 30 years ago: The biggest thieves are still in Congress and the White House yet it’s the street thugs that get the headlines.
But hey... go ahead and make your Imax movie in DC, Kal. This may wind up being the first time a movie AND the B-list star BOTH get shot in 3-D.

I do believe that’s Justin Long, who also played the dweebie Brandon in Galaxy Quest. I thought he was great in that role, and it looks like he’s been typecast for the balance of his career (including the Mac commercials and Die Hard).
I’m a conservative who almost exclusively has been using a Mac since 1983. I’ll bet Apple hasn’t caught on yet...
