'Kumar' Actor Robbed at Gunpoint in D.C. (Kal Penn - actor turned Obama admin official)

TMZ has learned Kal Penn -- aka Kumar from that "White Castle" movie -- was robbed at gunpoint early this morning while walking in a neighborhood in Washington D.C.

Law enforcement sources tell TMZ Penn claims a man carrying a gun approached him around 1:20 AM and took his wallet and other personal property.

We're told Penn immediately reported the incident to authorities, who have launched an investigation into the matter.

Multiple calls to Penn's rep were not returned.

I read a week or so ago that Kal Penn is leaving his job at the White House, and will begin filming another Harold and Kumar movie by early this summer. Nice DC send-off for the actor.

Also, I wonder why this robbery (without injury) story about an Obama staffer hits the presses so quickly, while the story about the brutal beating of the two (R) people in New Orleans is still percolating under the MSM radar?
