Speaking as someone who has had a doorman in the past, and currently lacks one, they are at they best when they serve as a “bouncer” to throw out homeless interlopers, annoying salesmen, and Chinese restaurant menu distribution agents. The latter is a particular pet peeve of mine as everytime I get home from work, there must be 10 menus dumped at my door!

The worst is when there is a food delivery guy in your building and he stops at your apartment and slides a menu through your door. It gives me the creeps!

You have problems that most of us in residential suburbs don't have. The homeless are a warm weather phenomenon in my area. Local cities don't have a pot of gold for homeless shelters, so they leave in September. Annoying salesmen get apprehended by the local PD. We only have 7 Chinese restaurants. They really don't need to advertise. The repeat customer population has been stable for years. Pocatello and New York are different kinds of places.
