This is a copy of the police report on the Bautsch/Brown assault. The narrative begins on page 4 of the pdf. file (be patient - it takes a moment to load).
The report strongly suggests that the white male perpetrators were part of the protest that evening outside of Brennan's restaurant.

Hmm. Seems like more. Doesn't fit the pattern of a robbery, and it doesn't sound like a dispute that built into a fight. Unless the attackers are somehow caught, we'll never know for sure if it was political. Seems unlikely that it was anything else, though. I like the guys description of one of the attackers as “dirty but not homeless”. Sounds like a progressive to me.

From what I have read, the focus is on a far left outfit called the Iron Rail Gang. Members of it “fit the description” and as soon as the word went out of the perps appearance they promptly cleansed their facebook pages.
