I should of posted a disclaimer, sorries!! As you know though, you know those of whom I speak. And I will know the feeling though soon enough when the store is sold. I’ll be sitting down with several people who’ve had some things in the works for a while now. I may be able to get into the mix, which would be a good thing indeed.... While your still running the store, you have to pay the quarterly taxes.
Taxes that are due before we are out of here. I’ll use for the sake of simplicity 5/1 as the day the new owners take over. But with the liquor license being the most important and time consuming item in the process, they start being in the store on 5/1, but I’m still ultimately responsible for everything under the auspices of the management agreement I signed w/them. It’s a standard thing now to do cause it isn’t like the old days when things were done in a blink of an eye.
So back to the May 1st date. By then, I need to make sure the following are paid and caught up on.....
-—Sales taxes. By far the most important tax of all. At one time I was 2 months behind in paying. Had it stayed that way there was a 0% chance of the liquor license transferring. I have now caught up, paying 3 months worth in the last 3 weeks. On next Friday,March’s tax is due—NO PROBLEMS there!!
-—State withholding. Due every 3 months, caught up....
-—CAT(commercial activity tax). 2009 tax due on May 1st. It’s the way the state does it, has nothing to do with sale date.....
So all in all we’re in good shape there. Not only that, but since me and my brother are selling the building too we are responsible for property taxes up until the day of closing, figure 5/1 to make it easy.....
