I had wondered why Walmart never carried a lot of saradines in tins. I guess it was because they couldn’t control the supply line. They have fish steaks in tins but only a very small offering of saradines.
I love anchovies but never could adjust to a sardine.
Somebody must. They're still in every supermarket and discount type store that carries food items, at least the ones I frequent. I eat them a few times a year, but eat canned salmon weekly and usually more often.
I often enjoy fresh grilled sardines at Portuguese and Spanish restaurants. Bony and oily, but still delicious when charred. I’ve never had canned sardines in my life, however, nor do I plan to.
My sister works there. She gets 2 cans a day to take home. I hope she stocked up, because she’ll need them. There are no jobs around here.
Und you VILL rite on Villie's train, verstehen!
One of the best meals I’ve had in my life was in a fishing village south of Lisbon, Portugal. A wide variety of sardines (canned), squid and other delicacies from the sea, plus wine and those unique Portuguese rolls that seemed to be everywhere.
Canned Portuguese sardines seem to be the among most highly regarded anywhere.
There were massive shoe factories. And the world's largest toothpick factory, as well (it blew up recently, not sure if it's re-opened).
95% is all gone. Mostly chased out by the damn fools from parts south (Boston, etc) creating a climate that's hostile to industry.
'Tis one of the reasons I left the state. Damn near impossible to make a good living there. If you're just getting by, you're way ahead of most people.
I still miss the summers, though. They can keep the winters.
MMMMMMMMMMmmmmmm..... Although, I must say that I prefer the ones in hot sauce. Wash it down with a cold Moxie, and you've got a good meal, right there.
Makes my wife gag. That's part of the fun, too.
But when I combine that with the numerous other authoritarian (joking?) comments over time, I'm not convinced it's all in jest.
Sardine breath is not a joking matter.
It is a series condition that requires immediate medical attention.
Love ‘em. Have to eat them in the basement though. The cats, when they hear that can peeling, are on me like stink on $hit...
There may be more than you think. Most of my family likes them including my 12 year old.
My father grew up in rural Mississippi. They had fresh vegetables in season, frozen and canned vegetables the rest of the year. They had fresh and cured meat, and lots of fish and game.
They thought of store bought food as high living. Until the day he died, my dad always had a can of sardines and vienna “sausages” in his desk at work along with saltine crackers. He loved them.
I do. King Oscar preferably. I was one of those kids who asked their mom to pack sardine sandwiches for me. Needless to say, a lot of kids didn’t sit at my lunch table. But I love ‘em.
Ahh, so one person with sardine breath passes it along to the next guy, and so on? That is disturbing!
My Marine was thrilled to get them in Iraq!
Didn’t know that sardine canneries still existed in the US. I thought sardines came from Algeria.
I would not be suprised if the common thread is Hussein wants more control over the food supply. They want to ban fishing.
Stalin starved 6 to 8 million Ukrainians to make sure he controlled them.
