Chalk up another win for Prince William County under the leadership of Chairman Corey Stewart.
A $50 million Wartime Museum will be built in eastern Prince William County near the intersection of I-95 and Dale Blvd. on a 70-acre site to be open Veteran's Day, Nov. 11, 2014.
The Wartime Museum will be a one-of-a-kind, world-class museum. The $50 million project will provide a new cultural, educational and recreational attraction in Prince William County and the Commonwealth of Virginia. An initial market study estimated that the Museum will create 50 direct and 35 indirect jobs, attract more than 300,000 tourists each year and have an annual economic impact of $10 million to $25 million per year at surrounding hotels, restaurants and other businesses.Following is the statement of Corey Stewart:
"It is fitting that The Wartime Museum will be located in Prince William County where the military has played a significant role in our community's history. This nation fought its first battle of the Civil War here in 1861, and the County remained on the front line of the war with the second, and bloodier, battle of Manassas. Our community has always been proud that many Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen, Marines and Coast Guardsmen have called Prince William home; and this museum will honor our veterans from all services. The Museum will complement the existing resources of The National Museum of the Marine Corps and Manassas National Battlefield Park, and provide continued confirmation that Prince William County is a premier destination for anyone interested in military heritage."
Where does the money come from? Who gets to pay to maintain this every year?
I’m with you on that one.
Enough is enough.
The piggy bank is empty - just filled with IOU’s.
Will Kucinich demand a ‘peace time’ museum?
Privately funded.
And the land was donated.
Good.
We already have the Infantry Museum in Columbus, Georgia, the Special Forces museum in Fort Bragg, the Navy Museum in Washington, DC, the Marines Museum in Quantico, at least half a dozen Civil War museums, at least three World War II Museums, the World War I museum in Kansas City, a planned Revolutionary War Museum in Philadelphia, and probably many more museums across the country dedicated to some aspect of warfare. Why do we need taxpayer money for this project?
Privately donated? Never mind. Moderators, please delete my last comment.
I am not exactly sure by the name, War Time Museum, what such a museum would contain? Will it tell the story of how civilians live during war? Common soldier? Will it be like a museum analog of the War College and archieve war artifacts in general?
"Start-up funding was obtained from 2004-2007 from Congress, the Commonwealth of Virginia, Prince William County, and private donors. "
How much came from “private donors”? 5%? 10%?
Who is going to pay for this to stay in operation every year? local taxpayers?
I checked the site, I saw nothing about privately funded. I'm sorry but my trust factor is......low.
Come on, don’t be so ruff. Former ACORN employees need a place to sit around (work).
I believe your post has been vindicated....and good list.....;)
As if there's something illegal...
Libs, kids, and fools!
