Ranchers Take Message to Legislators
The Sierra Vista Herald ^ | April 13, 2010

In an initiative kicked into high gear as a result of the shooting death last month of longtime Douglas-area rancher Robert Krentz by a suspected illegal alien, Arizona ranching families will gather at the Arizona Capitol today to demand action to secure the border.

Southern Arizona ranchers have been meeting with local officials for the past 18 months, and the Arizona Cattlemen’s Association has developed a plan of action — “Restore Our Border” — to secure the border.

Securing the border is a federal obligation, the National Cattlegrowers needs to take this proposal to D.C.. I don't see things changing- the politicians want amnesty for illegals- the safety of our citizens does not seem to be a concern.

Credibly threaten to have a couple hundred armed people - esp. with rifles and scopes - in the area and you will see a federal response so fast that it’ll make your head spin.

Can’t have the proles helping themselves, after all, it might give them ideas.

"Securing the border is a federal obligation, the National Cattlegrowers needs to take this proposal to D.C.. "

Very true! But the US Constitution gives to the States the right to engage in war if invaded. So the border states don't really need the permission nor assistance of the federal government if the federal government refuses to act.

Article I - Section 10 - Powers prohibited of States

No State shall, without the Consent of Congress, lay any
duty of Tonnage, keep Troops, or Ships of War in time of
Peace, enter into any Agreement or Compact with another
State, or with a foreign Power, or engage in War, unless
actually invaded, or in such imminent Danger as will not
admit of delay.

Secure the borders? Why would we do that? After all, what’s some minor skirmishes in a Mexican drug war when compared to the devestation of $5 / head lettuce?

I’d say that tens of thousands of illegals streaming across your border, many of them armed, constitutes an “invasion”.

Along with the armed and dangerous drug cartels. We are definitely being invaded and the US Congress is too worried about being politically correct about illegals, i.e. non-citizens. It's treason!

We need to replace some Congressmen with Patriots that still believe this country is worth protecting against the scum that crosses the border illegally.

I can’t think of anyone that lives in this area that is not already armed. This situation is a powder keg that our politicians seem to be ignoring.

People who live on the border know what the situation is in Mexico- we know that our government does not take the border issues seriously. That means we feel we are responsible for our own protection. I can see that leading to a situation that will lead to more deaths- either of ranchers or illegals.

It doesn’t seem to bother our politicians if ranchers get murdered in cold blood but I am quite sure if any illegals get wounded or killed; even in self-defense then it will be a different story.

Actually, things have gotten so bad that I'm in favor of a fence to keep out the average civilian border crosser, to a BERLIN WALL situated behind the fence with all of the systems afforded by the old wall in place to keep those folks out whose motivations are of a more sinister nature. I get so mad when some whining pos liberal exclaims that walls and such do no good. "Build a 50 foot wall and somebody will build a 51 foot ladder", crappola. When the wall was running at full power and fully manned, whenever any single person made it out, alive, it became instant worldwide news.

I hear you, fences work — Israel has had good luck with their double wall fence with a guard truck lane in the middle. Something like this is clearly what we need now.

I agree that states have the right to defend their border. The problem is D.C. politicians are so out of touch- while we deal with problems on the border and away from the border with illegals they are gung ho to give the illegals amnesty.

Absolutely- that would go a long way toward solving many problems, not just the border issues.
