House Democratic Majority Leader Steny Hoyer (D., Md.) says the "negative atmosphere" created by the tea party movement has influenced the retirement decisions of some House Democrats (but not Bart Stupak):
Do I think that [the] negative atmosphere thats been created by the Tea Party and by others certainly goes into the thinking of members? I think it does. I think you have to honestly point out that it does, Hoyer added. I dont think that was the determining factor with respect to Mr. Stupak, because again, he was in very good shape in the polls. It wasnt a question of his losing his election.
So that I think that other members clearly, you know, have in mind whats happening in their districts, whats happening in the country. But I think there are judgments that are going to be made and I would urge all the members that are here to run, to seek reelection. I think the Republicans still have more ... retirees than we do. So if it was the atmosphere, you would think that the opposite would be the case. Its not.
Mr. Stupak did not leave because of the Tea Party.
Its called being held accountable by the people you are suppose to represent.
Stupak picked up his 30 pieces of silver but I do not expect him to hang himself but just leave and go home is fine with me.
I agree. I think he left because of Rahm's vicious style of moving votes in congress.
ACORN cannot cheat enough to keep the Dems from losing 60 plus seat in the House. We will remember in November.
I love the way these meatheads answer their own questions.
Remarkable, and snobbish.
Hoyer has been there for almost 18 terms. So many of these lib Dems have been there so long; Dingell, Conyers, Frank, et al that they think they deserve Kingship. Their liberalism is killing the USA fiscally and our national security. They must all go in Nov. Not one Dem is good for American; not one.
Jeez Louise!.....You bet, Asshat!...their retiremnet plans have sure changed!
Is Hoyer up for reeltion this year too? I hope so I’d sure love to see his face when he realizes he’s been retired.
reeltion= reelection
The smarter rats are escaping the sinking ship. They see the damage they have done and want to go bunker down somewhere as everything collapses.
Every House seat is up for re-election every 2 years.
What bothers be is they are too cowardly to run for election and defend their votes. They voted to destroy this country and now they hide from voters.
One of the many poster boys for TERM LIMITS. Should have been out 16 terms ago, and either run for another (preferably) higher office, or gone back to the real world, living under the laws he helped to pass.
There should be no congressional retirement plans other than whatever social security they are entitled to, and any pension plans they choose to fund for themselves.
And one third of the senate, IIRC. Expand the house term to three years, two term max. Reduce the senate term to five years, two terms max. After sixteen years in congress, if they want to run for governor, president or any other elective office, fine; same term limitations.
The states are another matter; they should enact term limits as well, but it would be like herding cats to get them all to agree to do so.
They are leaving simply because of finaqncial concerns . A retired congress vermin is worth more as a lobbyist than a defeated one .
Mr. Stupak did not leave because of the Tea Party.
I agree. I think he left because of Rahm’s vicious style of moving votes in congress.
I think you may be right, and if so, man is that party gonna turn on Rahmbo with a vengeance after November.
“Hoyer added. I dont think that was the determining factor with respect to Mr. Stupak, because again, he was in very good shape in the polls. It wasnt a question... “
Blah blah blah.........maybe Hoyer is right....it was really the death threats ;-)
“What bothers be is they are too cowardly to run for election and defend their votes. They voted to destroy this country and now they hide from voters.”
Hmmm......maybe they’re SCUM.
