Voters in congressional District 19 today will choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, the Democrat who stepped down in January to head a Middle East think tank.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The district has more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans and voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008. That makes Ted Deutch, a state Senator from Boca Raton, the heavy favorite. But Republican Ed Lynch hopes to ride voter dislike for the new Democratic health care law to an upset victory. And independent candidate Jim McCormick hopes enough voters are fed up with two-party politics to propel him into office.
The winner serves the last 8-1/2 months of Wexlers term and will be up for reelection to a full two-year term in the fall.

Dawg, believe me...that district going Republican would be like Maxine Waters’ district going for a white Mormon. Puttin’ a ton of stock and effort in it would be a tough call.
Agreed

Update 9:10 p.m.:
The Associated Press has just declared Deutch the winner of the election, based on results that are in so far.
Heard Rush talk about it - he only brought it up after a caller from the district talked about it. Still, think about the other races that have taken place lately - esp this one being the 1st after Obamacare passage. You’d think this race would have attracted a bit more attention from our side.
Rush mentioned it on his show today. I knew of the race, but did not hear much leading up to this.
You folks just don’t get it. Every election is important!!! Shucks, I’m the “over-the-hill” dude getting ready to meet Saint Pete down the road a piece. I have had a great life, a great family, a great American experience. I am not fighting for me. I am fighting for my children, my grandchildren and all children to come. I do not think any of you realize what POTUS Obama is really after. I suggest you tune in to the Military History Channels and check out folks you should know well. Start with Germany, italy, Japan, Russia, China. No freedom, no liberty, no individual opportunity, no voting, no Democracy!!! Wise up, folks!!! You are losing the battle.
“Now why did they go after NY23 and not this race?”
NY23 is way different than this district. Way different.
On twitter just now.
Dem. Ted Deutch wins Fla. special election for U.S. Congressional seat vacated by Robert Wexler, scuttling GOP hopes for upset - AP

Ted Deutch (DEM) 53.82% 7,342
Jim McCormick (NPA) 3.36% 458

“Every election is important!!!”
Many of us knew about this for months here and have been involved. We’re not going to win 435 seats in the House, no matter how ticked off we are, and no matter how important we think each election is.
You are right, we are not going to win 435 seats in the house, but you cannot win any seat unless you are in the race. I blame no one person. I blame myself along with others. I e-mailed the “talkies” and never heard a word. The Pubbies (Repubicans) are sickening whimps. Shucks, a meaningful turnout for our guy would have shook the world. Where was the “Republican” funding? We just don’t get it!!! Another sad day for America and her future!!! Yes, Americans, you stood by and let it happen, just like the German people let tyranny and facism have its way. Sad, Sad, Sad!!!
It was a dem +25 district. It would have taken a liberal republican and a miracle to win.
I would like to know why the RNC did not have national ads on this race. They could have exceeded Scott Brown’s impact on public opinion. They would have had an uphill fight, but they may have changed some of the “Jews for Hitler” mindset.
Right, it's human nature to let the negative overwhelm the positive but we've already accomplished so much. The people who have and continue to organize the Tea Parties and protests, NJ, VA, MA elections and the many RATS already dropping out of races before they're even run.
We're not going to win all 435 but we need to keep doing what we're doing so we can impact most local races in Nov. The people are doing great, don't look back, look ahead.
The reason the GOP did not spend alot on this one is that there are many Dems down there with deep pockets, and Lynch didn't stand a chance in said district, which is effectively an "ethnic" district.
Look, this one is lost. However, it does appear at the moment that Mr. Lynch has captured a respectable number of votes. Having lived in Florida (South) I know the district quite well. For any Republican conservative to get this kind of vote is surprising to say the least. I, too, agree with you, sir, “onward to Hawaii and Pennsylvania” and to victory in both contests. I have begged both Rush Limbaugh & Sean Hannity to get deeply involved with these two house elections. We can win them if we all work and strive together. God Bless America!!!
