Voters in congressional District 19 today will choose a replacement for U.S. Rep. Robert Wexler, the Democrat who stepped down in January to head a Middle East think tank.
Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The district has more than twice as many Democrats as Republicans and voted 65 percent for Barack Obama in 2008. That makes Ted Deutch, a state Senator from Boca Raton, the heavy favorite. But Republican Ed Lynch hopes to ride voter dislike for the new Democratic health care law to an upset victory. And independent candidate Jim McCormick hopes enough voters are fed up with two-party politics to propel him into office.
The winner serves the last 8-1/2 months of Wexlers term and will be up for reelection to a full two-year term in the fall.

These short term replacement elections are terrifying. If Lynch wins the ‘Rats have the next 8 months to destroy him.
“The positive impact even if Lynch can just outrun expectations is that it could lead to more RAT retirements in a hurry.”
Polls close in a few minutes! Go Lynch!!
In any event, I can’t wait to see what happens in
November, 2010. (That is, as some say, IF there are elections.)

Not looking good. Currently 56% - ‘Rat, 40% Republican
Early voting is counted.
Dem 68%
Hope actual voting goes better.
Maybe I should correct that and say:
ACORN votes have been counted.
Can you keep us current? Thx

I forgot that Palm Beach Co has part of this district.
The link above is their results.
Edward Lynch (R) 28.63% 4,922
Ted Deutch(D) 68.96% 11,857
That’s the early voting, I believe.
I find it strange that at 9 pm., they don’t have ANY results yet... except early voting?
This is weird.
To S. Fla. freepers:
Was this ever an even possible pickup? Heard absolutely NOTHING about this race on any of the conservative websites, talk radio, Fox, etc. Hannity even here in Fla today - no mention of the race. Rubio: no mention of the race. Did Lynch even have any Repub support?
Very curious....I live in central Fla and heard more about congressional races/candidates in Indiana and Ohio than I have about this race.
Shame..... It would have been nice to at least have contested to pick up this historically far Left seat!
I agree. It’s either Florida’s continued incompetence, or Lynch is doing better than expected.
I doubt very strongly that this seat was a pickup for the Republicans under any circumstances. The “gerrymandered” district is so heavily weighted by Jewish senior citizens who would vote Democrat if a “donkey” was running for office. Having said that, shame on the Republicans, the Conservatives, the “Talk Radio” hosts and commentators. fro not getting behind Lynch and maximizing the “conservative” vote. A strong turnout for Lynch or a squeaker victory would have turned Washington, DC upside down. Shame, the country we love is slipping through our fingers for lack of commitment and action by our side. Thanks, Limbaugh, thanks, Hannity, thanks Levin, thanks Hewitt, thanks Gallagher, for nothing!!!!
The conservative leadership, including the NRCC, is focusing on upcoming opportunities in PA-12 and Hawaii.
In fairness to them, the winner will only serve for 7 months and then another election and weren’t there some “ethical” issues with Lynch?
Yes on ethical issues - and it would be nice to have some election returns.
Limbaugh talked about it today, a little late if you ask me. I don’t know if anyone else on talk radio talked about it today. It was posted a few times on FR as well.
Other than that, it wasn’t covered that much, Republicans must have thought it wasn’t worth it. Now why did they go after NY23 and not this race?
