America Becomes a Two-Class Society
Townhall.com ^ | April 13, 2010 | Phillis Schlafly

Income tax day, April 15, 2010, now divides Americans into two almost equal classes: those who pay for the services provided by government and the freeloaders. The percentage of Americans who will pay no federal income taxes at all for 2009 has risen to 47 percent.

That isn't the worst of it. The bottom 40 percent not only pay no income tax, but the government sends them cash or benefits financed by the taxes dutifully paid by those who do pay income tax.

The outright cash handouts include the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC), which can amount to as much as $5,657 a year to low-income families. Other financial benefits can include child tax credits, welfare, food stamps, WIC (Women, Infants, Children), housing subsidies, unemployment benefits, Medicaid, S-CHIP and other programs.

This is both a massive transfer of wealth and a soak-the-rich racket. The top 10 percent pay 73 percent of the income taxes collected by the federal government.

Rep. Paul Ryan, R-Wis., has become the congressional leader in explaining details of the recently passed Health Control Law. He says that, based on Congressional Budget Office figures, taxes to pay for Obamacare will have to skyrocket to an 88 percent income tax rate within 30 years.

Although all wage-earners help fund their own Social Security and Medicare benefits, only federal income taxpayers pay the costs of running the federal government, and are responsible for paying off our $12.8 trillion national debt and for bailing out Social Security, Medicare, and Fannie and Freddie when they collapse.

Even the recently passed Health Control Law contains financial subsidies to unmarried couples that are denied to married couples. This rewards the unmarried women who were the second largest demographic constituency that voted for Barack Obama for president in 2008.

When Obama told Joe the Plumber he wanted to "spread the wealth around," Obama wasn't kidding. That's exactly what he is now doing: taking money from taxpayers and spreading it around to non-taxpayers.

Nor was Obama kidding when, on the eve of his election, he threatened, "We are going to fundamentally transform the United States of America." Converting the earnings of American workers into handouts for those who voted for Obama in 2008 is certainly a fundamental transformation.

Obama's promise not to raise taxes on middle-Americans is already down the drain. Obama brought former Federal Reserve Board Chairman Paul Volcker out of obscurity to serve as chairman of an Economic Recovery Advisory Board and announce that we need to raise taxes.

Volcker was blunt in predicting that the new tax increase will be a Value-Added Tax (VAT). That's the tax European socialists love because its rates can be hidden and frequently raised, while producing rivers of revenue for the bureaucrats.

Volcker claimed that a VAT is "not a toxic idea." It really is -- Charles Krauthammer called it "the ultimate cash cow" because it transfers so much money from individuals to the government.

Having already co-opted the executive and legislative branches of government for his fundamental transformation, Obama now wants to use the judiciary, too. The retirement of Supreme Court Justice John Paul Stevens gives him this opportunity.

On Jan. 18, 2001m on Public Radio WBEZ-FM, Chicago, Obama complained that the Earl Warren Court "wasn't that radical" because "it didn't break free from the essential constraints placed by the Founding Fathers in the Constitution. ... The Supreme Court never ventured into the issues of redistribution of wealth and serve more basic issues of political and economic justice in this society."

Calling for the Supreme Court to participate in the "redistribution of wealth" is shockingly revolutionary. Any judicial nominee who agrees with Obama's theory should be rejected.

Obama's game plan to "fundamentally transform" America is based on both Saul Alinsky's modus operandi for community organizing and on the Cloward-Piven spending strategy. Saul Alinsky was a famous Chicago radical, and Richard Cloward and Frances Fox Piven were less-well-known Columbia University sociologists.

The goal of all three of these agitators was the overthrow of the private enterprise system. The Alinsky strategy is to use community organizing and mass demonstrations by those he labeled the "Have Nots," and the Cloward-Piven strategy is to overload the bureaucracy with enormous demands for entitlements, thereby causing a financial crisis.

Obama used Alinsky methods by taxpayer financing of ACORN and subprime mortgages. Obama used Cloward-Piven methods by massive deficit spending for entitlements for more and more millions of people.

Fortunately, hardworking, taxpaying Americans are beginning to understand how they are being ripped off and rushed into bankruptcy. The one way to save ourselves and our country is to elect a Congress in November pledged to stop the spending.

47% pay no taxes
53% pay all taxes

What percentage of the 53 who pay taxes do so with money taken by force from others?

In other words, how many are fed, state, county, city employees?

Indeed, this unwise use of tax monies has reached ridiculous and VERY counter-productive proportions.

Enough!!!

What we’re seeing from the political class these days is

“a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same object evinc[ing] a design to reduce [us] under absolute despotism”,

in the modern sense, a return to feudalism, where the “nobility” of the political class controls all the wealth, resources, land, food, energy production, weapons, etc,
whilst the “commoners”, those of us that wish to live free of the collectivist yoke, are left to live and die at the whim of the nobility.

There are, we must suppose, whole big bunches of Americans who think the only taxes anyone ever pays are the "income taxes".

How wrong they are!

NO ONE in this country can escape taxation. Even new born illegal alien "anchor babies" will get taxed with their first diaper, or eyewash, or swab, or whatever.

There's a tax there just waiting, or it may even have already been paid. Someone is going to pay it, and the beneficiaries of whatever it is do eventually grow up, buy a Slurpee at the Seven-Eleven and learn all about sales taxes ~ and some may recognize the element of property tax behind the store, the inventory or turnover tax behind the shaved ice, and the permits necessary to open up shop.

Then, when they're old enough, they're going to find out about FICA ~ usually a pittance to the rich who focus their minds mostly on income tax and capital gains ~ but for the bottom ends of our society, FICA gets taken out no matter what you make.

The articles descrying the creation of a two class society based on little more than the payment of personal income tax are right up there with Obama's declarations concerning Obamakkkare.

All I can say is you guys, including Obama, should learn to read so you can find out all about the fine print on the back that names the taxes.

While not normally an advocate of tax increases, I could support a change to the AMT that says everyone has to pay 10%.

“The America of my time line is a laboratory example of what can happen to democracies, what has eventually happened to all perfect democracies throughout all histories. A perfect democracy, a “warm body” democracy in which every adult may vote and all votes count equally, has no internal feedback for self-correction.... [O]nce a state extends the franchise to every warm body, be he producer or parasite, that day marks the beginning of the end of the state. For when the plebs discover that they can vote themselves bread and circuses without limit and that the productive members of the body politic cannot stop them, they will do so, until the state bleeds to death, or in its weakened condition the state succumbs to an invader — the barbarians enter Rome.”

Everything “O” does, says, believes is a blueprint for social discord. With long premeditation and planning, no one could have done more damage to the social equilibrium of the US than he has done.

Even supposing his plans fail, the damage IS already done. Decades will not put us back where we were before the Clintons and “O” breathed life back into American social/economic/racial friction

For decades past Liberals have held, just like a religion, this whole laundry list radical demands to achieve their infantile social utopianism. “O’s” policies embody all these Liberal aspirations and the mindless will, without which NOTHING could be achieved.

“O” is the empty vessel they poured all their energy and influence into.

It was almost inevitable... If “O” did not come along and take the most shamelessly unfair advantage of Americans and American institutions at the moment when, more than any other, we should be united, another Liberal pasteboard prop would have served them just as well.

Conservatives were asleep at the switch and permitted the whole coup.. and don’t kid yourself because that is just what is was.

Good point. We have two classes: prey — taxpayers in the private sector, and predators — public sector workers (except military) and tax takers. Of course the lines aren’t really clear but it is clear that a whole lotta people are now dependent on government largesse to maintain their lifestyles.

I could support a change to the AMT that says everyone has to pay 10%.

Better yet - divide the total cost of running the Federal Government for a year by the number of people 18-and-older to determine the per-capita cost, and send everyone their bill.

No one has asserted that income taxes are the only taxation. The assertion is that federal income taxes are substantial and that 47% pay no federal income taxes with a large part of this group receiving tax welfare (refundable tax credits).

The left likes to focus on payroll taxes. However payroll taxes fund specific government programs that are highly tilted towards lower income individuals. A lifetime low income earner will receive a good deal from both Social Security and Medicare compared to a long-term high earner. Democrat tax increases will dramatically tip this balance with additional payroll taxes assessed on high earners.

There are many other forms of direct and indirect taxation that everyone pays: sales taxes, property taxes, state income taxes (in most cases less progressive than federal income taxes), motor fuel taxes, ... The level of taxation is much easier to control for these taxes because everyone pays them.

“In other words, how many are fed, state, county, city employees?”

There are other questions which should also be asked;

How many people abuse the Medicare, Medicaid and Social Security systems?

How many civil service employees are living on disability who may not be disabled?

How many doctors have taken money from the system under dishonest circumstances?

Why is the non-payment of taxes by public officials in the federal government dismissed so cavalierly?

(Plus many others)

IMHO

The Toyota recall has had more attention and rigorous oversight than Medicare/Medicaid fraud-which is by now decades old and growing!

In fact, the article states at the beginning:

"Income tax day, April 15, 2010, now divides Americans into two almost equal classes: those who pay for the services provided by government and the freeloaders. "

So, yes, the writer of the piece did assert exactly what you said wasn't asserted.

Clarity in writing pays huge dividends. Telling us that folks who don't pay income taxes don't also pay for services provided by the government is misleading in the extreme (and you know what that means ~ EXTREME).

Whatever the Leftwingtards like to focus on, I am not a Leftwingtard. I don't care what they focus on ~ in fact, most of them focus on their nether regions most of the time, when they aren't thinking about how to tax us, and are the primary vector for STDs.

Although this looks like a thread hijacking, we should talk about the Leftwingtards and what they do with their nether regions. As we recall from last month Rahm Emanuel does lots and lots of "weiner bumps" with Congressmen in the House gymnasium locker. Clearly this is distracting or they wouldn't have ended up exempting themselves from even getting healthcare coverage for the next four years!

Bwahahahahahaha (27th amendment ~ check it out).

Why except the military? Certainly there are some drones there as well ~ I know, I met a few.

Now, about Postal workers ~ they are paid exclusively out of revenues raised by the USPS for carriage of the mails.

And then, there are your firemen and cops. Although they should collect fees for services provided directly to victims, we generally view them more as an "insurance" than anything else.

Think your thoughts through a bit more then get back to us with something besides libertarian talking points.

I was responding to the idea about tax freedom with respect to federal income taxes. I agree that the writer should be precise with language. How is my rewriting?

With respect to federal income taxes (the largest source of revenue to the federal government), income tax day now divides Americans into two almost equal classes: those who pay for the services provided by government and the freeloaders. Further the freeloaders can be divided into those who receive substantial tax welfare and those who simply pay no federal income taxes. The tax welfare group includes many illegal aliens who also hide substantial parts of their income from taxation.
