Thanks for the ping.

Not sure if it’s a true security threat to President Bush or just an excuse. If it’s a security thing, why is Obama still sending our troops and some of our own top military brass to march in RED SQUARE for ‘Victory Day’ next month?

I shudder to think.....

“He did it when he first came into office if I remember correctly.”

I hadn’t heard this, but it wouldn’t surprise me for him to *threaten* to do it (don’t think he can *legally*). Yes, he is nothing but a lying Chicago thug.

It was something that happened in Dallas. It might have been the Dallas Police department threatening to take the police off duty at Bush’s home(now that I think about it). Something about the feds and the Secret Service were not re-imbursing the Dallas PD for their work and they were suppose to. Not sure what happened. It was posted here on FR early last year.

Now that you mention the Dallas PD, that sounds vaguely familiar. It does seem there was a conflict about pay. Thanks for the reminder.

Strange. It sounds like Obama is trying to get a piece of ass on the side, without the Media knowing about it. Hmmm.

My first thoughts too, thinking of the last time a different Executive disappeared without telling anyone ...

From the Secret Service website

* The president, the vice president, (or other individuals next in order of succession to the Office of the President), the president-elect and vice president-elect
* The immediate families of the above individuals
* Former presidents and their spouses for their lifetimes, except when the spouse remarries. In 1997, Congressional legislation became effective limiting Secret Service protection to former presidents for a period of not more than 10 years from the date the former president leaves office
* Children of former presidents until age 16
* Visiting heads of foreign states or governments and their spouses traveling with them, other distinguished foreign visitors to the United States, and official representatives of the United States performing special missions abroad
* Major presidential and vice presidential candidates, and their spouses within 120 days of a general presidential election
* Other individuals as designated per Executive Order of the President
* National Special Security Events, when designated as such by the Secretary of the Department of Homeland Security

WH has told GW and Laura Bush that they may not attend the Polish President’s funeral and that no Secret Service will be provided for them if they go on their own

Hi Starwise. Secret Service protection for former presidents and first ladies is established by law. Not that O wouldn't dream of breaking the law [dripping sarcasm here], but still...he isn't supposed to have any say in the matter.

Also, former President and Mrs. Bush are private citizens. Obama can't tell private citizens whether or not they can attend a funeral, for heaven's sake. We aren't that far gone. So IF this report is true, I sure hope conservatives in the media make a HUGE stink about it.

They helped turn the public against GWB after his reelection just to boost their own ratings and pump up their own book sales. So as far as I'm concerned, they owe him. He was ALWAYS gracious with all of them, conservative and liberal alike. Obama spits all over the media (figuratively speaking).

The thing is, the protection used to be for a lifetime. It was changed so that Bush will be the first to lose protection, IIRC, after 10 years.
