I think these numbers are mostly an artifact of bad timing, for reasons I’ll explain, but … wow.
A new, annual survey of American Jewish public opinion by the American Jewish Committee finds that Jews, by and large, continue to approve of Obama — 57 percent say they approve of the job he’s doing — and also back his handling of Israel.
The 55 percent who approve of Obama’s Israel policy is a slight improvement on the finding in the same survey last year, while the disapproval number has ticked up slightly more.
His net support on Israel has declined slightly — 55/37 this year versus 54/32 last year — but given the recent “unpleasantness,” I would have expected a more dramatic change than +22 to +18. Also — dude:

I will never understand this mindset.
Like all polls, it should be taken among those that will give the desired results.
Most American jews who vote Democrat are self hating Jews..they wouldn’t know anything about Israel if it bit them in the ass. Jews who were born in Israel and immigrated here(Such as members of my family) all vote Republican and are disgusted at Obama for what he is doing. Heck, they just hate Obama period
He could go to Iran and have a toast with Ameidinijad. CNN and MSNBC would be drooling with their cameras. Obama would press the button to launch a nuke to wipe out Tel Aviv. Liberal American Jews would cheer. I have known a few people like these hard core supporters as well as normal conservative Jews. The libs hate everything and especially Christians.
Those Jews for whom have never had, or for whom have abandoned their own heritage- the Democratic party remains their God.

Why do I have the feeling that a large percentage of American Jews do not care for Israel at all.
Because they despite Bibi almost as much as they despise Bush.
I read an interesting article about a year ago that (in a nutshell) gave what seemed to me a logical reason why American Jews vote as they do. The article suggested that since most American Jews are in large urban areas and that those areas are usually liberal strongholds that the Jews there simply find more common ground with their neighbors than their brethren and heritage.
It’s sad and pathetic. It’s shortsighted and selfish. It’s a betrayal of their ancestry. But it would explain a lot.
Because liberalism trumps everything else.

I think that they were polling Jews as a group, they were not polling Jews based on income, church or synagogue attendance, region, age and so on.
