NEW YORK (CNNMoney.com) -- The number of Americans filing for unemployment insurance for the first time jumped last week, according to government data released Thursday. There were 460,000 initial jobless claims filed in the week ended April 3, up 18,000 from an upwardly revised 442,000 the previous week, according to the Labor Department's weekly report.

Seriously?

“They do something more shady with determining inflation now. They use something called “core inflation” which excludes the cost of food and fuel. Now what is more important to people on SS who are supposed to get cost of living increases? However, that saves the politicians a lot of money to spend elsewhere and they exempt themselves from the bad effects of their policies.”

They’re such criminals, really.

“The thing that amazes me is just how much turnover there is in the job market in the US. These are new jobless claims for a week. That means that almost 1,800,000 people lose their jobs in a month. Since the monthly net employment number is around 100,000 jobs lost or created, there is a huge number of jobs being created/destroyed every day. Our economy is really dynamic. The Dems are beating it hard but it just doesn’t want to give up yet.”

Although way less jobs created currently, than we need to help kick out some of the massive un and underemployment numbers.

There are a finite number of jobs at any level.

There are millions of good conservatives and republicans on lower economic rungs, for millions of different reasons. Maybe some are underachievers, maybe some are maxed out, doing the best they can, but they are conservatives and republicans because they recognize the dangers of socialism. They are more in the marxist's sights than you are but they are standing fast!

Don't sell them short!

"Part time jobs I had during that period included, but were not limited to driving cars through an auto auction one night a week, shucking oysters at a bar on Friday and Saturday nights, waiting tables, working as a short order cook, driving a cab, moving furniture for a furniture store, doing yard work, often times for people who I'd just moved furniture for, working construction, working as a life guard, working at a car wash, working as a bar back, then later a bar tender and the list goes on and on."

My hat is off to you, Thermal. You are to be commended on your hard work, success, and early retirement! I am the same age as you; I've been employed since I was 15...often with three or more jobs while going to school earning those "worthless" degrees. I've been a cocktail waitress, riveted ballasts into lighting fixtures, cleaned houses, worked at art museums, worked in a green house, soldered circuit boards, worked as a model, instrumented tanks and helicopters, did private and corporate graphic design, worked at a florist, etc. I work as a software engineer now but I wouldn't trade what I've learned from those experiences. There is work to be done if you are willing to do it. It IS all about life choices.

Others want your level of success - but they are not willing to pay the price. They want no part of the sacrifice, the lack of sleep...the sheer grit and determination. They just want to reap the rewards.

Just one more stimulus bill should solve the problem.

Stop being a miser FRiend, give it 20 more trys before giving up, we only have a free nation to lose.

Give "the destructor" some time to do his work for crying out loud.

you know it is bad when bankruptcy filings soar.

you know the collapse is near when there is no point to filing bankruptcy anyways.

Yes, they continue the charade of pretending there is not a pattern to the gov’t’s economic figures. First, put out a bogus ‘everything is coming up roses” report and then depend on government controlled media to not report this to the brain dead unwashed.

However, I cannot understand why Wall Street is falling for this crap. It does have access to the real numbers. I mean, if a good report spikes the DOW shouldn’t a subsequently reported negative revision tank it? Instead the bogus positive report causes it to jump 30 pts and the revised negative report might move the DOW down a pt or two.
I really would like to know who is the man behind the curtain.

What are your several streams of income if I may ask. Its a good idea which I’ve been kicking around. Ebay, for one. I love yard saleing and find things I know could sell for more on ebay. I want to import these fantasic hand knit sox from Chile. That would help them, and me. Rental income ?

I started working in 1976 at the age of 14 at a local county airport as a lineman. Something else happened that year, too. Care to guess what it was? It was the election of Jimmy Carter, that's what. I graduated high school in 1980,

Yeah, I worked at a gas station through high school till I graduated in 1979. I admit it was fun durning the SECOND gas crisis to get to the station early in the morning and sit outside drinking coffee and having a donut while waiting for the clock to strike 6 so we could mosey out and remove the saw horses that blocked our drive. Cars lined the block waiting for us to open and get gas. Our allotment was usually gone my noon. So we'd shut the pumps off and turn away anybody that was still in line or tell them to stay till the next day.

I got bored with that so I joined the Army to kill people. Paid a whopping $419 a month but had great benefits.

;-)

The experience was probably priceless.

My company made it though the Carter years(and more) with out laying anyone off. A year and a quarter into the the Obama Administration a considerable number of positions were completely eliminated.

Don't worry,

MaObama and Comrade Biden will get the VAT and Crap & Tax passed soon. All that new revenue coming into the Gubbermint will create prosperity way, way beyond Biden’s wildest dreams.

And they will celebrate by granting Amnesty to tens of millions of new Democrats.

Welcome to Amexico.

After I sold my business I bought several commercial income producing properties. Triple net or NNN properties where the tenant pays the taxes, insurance and most of the upkeep on the property. This is my main income stream. I also bought a 70 acre farm. From that I sell hay to horse breeders off a couple of my fields. I also sell some produce, corn and peppers mostly, to a local restaurant and trade with neighbors for eggs. I have a grass strip on my far, along with a couple of hangars. So, I rent hangar space to two different airplane owners. I raise cattle. In addition, I rent shop space to a guy (Airframe and Powerplant mechanic) who does composite repair and refinish, primarily on sailplanes. I do some work with him from time to time when he gets busy. Huge demand for that right now because most of the sailplanes come from Europe and with the exchange rate so upside down with the Euro people are finding it's cheaper to refinish their old birds, rather than buy new. We do other fiberglass refinish, too. I did a refinish on a fiberglass flat water kayak last week. That one was worth $800 for about 25 hours work and about $30 in materials. I've got a couple of wave runners coming in next week for repairs. These will get refinished on the bottom where they've been skinned up from being beached repeatedly. We also buy airplane wrecks from insurance underwriters occasionally and rebuild them, fly them a while, then sell them. We just put a bid in on a wreck that could be worth some serious $$ if we get it. This is tricky because you really have to know what you are looking at to not get burned. I occasionally teach guitar and banjo lessons. About two months ago I was over at a friend of a friends new house checking it out. Their builder had gone bankrupt and had left their new home unfinished. They needed some pocket doors installed and trimmed out and a couple of other minor electrical things wrapped up. (I'm also a licensed electrician and I did a lot of trim carpentry when I was in college). I finished it up for them and made $1500 for roughly 10-12 hours work. That's a few off the top of my head. I've always got 3-4 things like this going on. Always have.

There is work to be had if you have broad skills. People always need things done, even in a weak economy.

You must feel so special.

Your condescension is not appreciated or necessary. The attitude represented by your words is precisely what is holding you down.
