Young adults in the United States are being squeezed out of the labor force as older workers either delay retirement or seek jobs to rebuild nest eggs destroyed by the recession, a study showed on Wednesday.
The size of the labor force fell 6.3 percent for young workers, but increased 8.5 percent for workers 55 years and older between December 2007 and January 2010, according to the study by the Washington-based Economic Policy Institute (EPI).

75% or more of the young people getting hired (when any get hired) at my corp are from India. Apparently not many Americans of ANY ethic origin have the skills to get a job here.
At least that is the company line....
Me, too. If it was a plane crash on company business, jackpot!
Even the military, often viewed by young people as a “last resort” occupation has become competitive, raising their standards by giving out fewer waivers, turning people away and meeting all their recruitment goals.
My wife keeps asking how to make things look like accidents...
Sorry, you got the wrong Jackass from Colorado. It was Gov. Dick Lamb in 1984. Funny, he easily fits into the dirt nap category these days(born September 12, 1935) but, he just keeps stealing oxygen and expelling CO2.
Sooo.... good looks were not in the picture at the time....
When they passed out "handsome" I thought they said "transom" ...
And jumped out the window!
Isn’t the average age in the senate & congress 73 yrs. old?
BTW, I am 68 and I do not really give a sh** if young people are being screwed out of jobs, let them reap the harvest of their idiotic voting records.
And guess what, they get to work on time everyday!!
And do not take off, without notice:
for proms,
the latest rave,
new video game,
surf's up,
white powder,
Spring break,
vacation,
bud's in town,
sleep in (only young once)
because already paid off ipod/netbook, speakers, car aftermarket toy..etc
I’m one of them. A mere kid can’t do what I do. The decades of experience matter.
Let’s see...
Who predicted this when they increased minimum wage to over 7 BUCKS PER HOUR
For you young people just out of high school that’s over $280 per week (for 40 hours)
You left off respect, politeness and good manners.
I'm in the Navy and there's a nice lady at church who asked how her son might be able to join. He's made some bad decisions in his life, racked up a few misdemeanors, a DUI, etc., but the worst decision he's made was getting the fist-sized tribal spiral tattoo on his neck. It pained me greatly to tell her that was most likely a deal-breaker these days. He might've gotten it waived in '03-'04 but not today.
They call those tats "job killers" for a reason.
In a starring role!
Just for the record: Back in the day(1962)when I was discharged from the army, I got a job at a Plywood plant that paid $2.05 per hour. I was rolling in money. I saved a bit, got married, bought a house, two houses, and two cars and my wife did not work. By the time I had the second house my wages had increased to about $4.00 per hour. This was how it was back in the day when capitalism ruled the country and socialism was a dirty word indeed.
This isn’t making sense.
This article claims the old-farts aren’t getting out of the way.
Other articles claim that the reason Social Security went “deficit” years ahead of schedule was that anyone close to retirement age is filing for Social Security because they can’t find a job.
Can’t be both.
