Cap and trade is not that complicated. Recently Ag Secretary Vilsack has been out promoting cap and trade and touting its benefits to farmers. Well, let’s look at these benefits that Sec. Vilsack is selling to the American people.
Sec. Vilsack is selling this terrible legislation by pointing out the money farmers can make from planting trees which is considered a “carbon offset.” Therefore, during a recession those in Washington would rather re-forest our land, which Vilsack said would provide “significant income opportunities to America’s farmers and ranchers.” This is absurd. When did even the most basic rules about supply and demand leave Washington? Or did Washington kick these rules out themselves?
The USDA released a report stating that subsidizing farmers to plant trees would result in decreased livestock production and it would bump up commodity prices. (More government interference in our economy again!) It is as simple as this. Cap and trade is bad for America and it is bad for the world! As farmers find more value in planting taxpayer subsidized trees as opposed to actually producing anything, supply will decrease. Without a proportional decrease in demand, we will inevitably see even more inflation in food prices. Thus far America as a whole hasn’t significantly noticed already inflated food prices. If they pass cap and trade not only will this result in increased energy costs for businesses and the people, but will result in even greater economic strain as Americans can’t afford their utilities and their food.
Why is it that Congressman Boswell and the 111th Congress are so focused on passing legislation that is economically devastating? There is nothing good to come from this bill. They are basing this on junk science and they refuse to even vet the science to ensure us it is in fact without manipulation and error. Instead, they would rather politicize climate change to redistribute wealth globally rather than focusing on job creation and boosting our economy. This bill will increase unemployment, hinder small businesses that are in a position to expand and it will tax the middle-class who will see the greatest cost burden as businesses pass the tax in the prices of their goods and services.
We cannot stand for elected officials who have no grasp whatsoever on the economics of the legislation they are passing. We cannot afford to allow them to vote for legislation that is bad for America. We cannot force our grandchildren into financial slavery by increasing our debt to give climate change reparations to the world.

I did the math not long ago — every human on Earth could comfortably fit into the State of Texas with plenty of room. This is the most red of red herring arguments.

Personally, wave a wad of greenbacks in front of my face and I’ll play any tune the dancers want.
That’s what cap and trade is all about.
More money. For me.
Or, really, anybody who can get to the trough in time.
I’m going to build a forest in my backyard. I wonder if they’ll pay based on quantity of trees or based on something else. If it’s quantity, you won’t be able to crawl through my backyard in 50 years.
where exactly do these dreamers think we can plant massive areas of trees sufficient to ‘reforest our land’ and offset the dangers they envision?
There is a climatological reason why the great Midwestern plains were called the Great American Desert and were treeless except in well-watered areas like river bottoms.
Putting these plains to the plow can be argued, but ‘reforesting’ is not an option.
This is another of Obama’s initiatives that I don’t understand and am skeptical of how it would be implemented. In this case it’s all about tweaking the knobs. A very mild, limited, first step might be fine with me if he explained how it would not harm our recovery, since right now we don’t need to be doing ‘green’ things that will hinder the recovery.
With Obama’s track record I fear where he will set the knobs.
I used to plant the Spruces at a previous house for ornamental value - 1 every Christmas, and usually paid about $50 for a 3' tree from the nursery. Anything bigger, and it'd be $75, and that was over 10 years ago.
I could utilize about 2/3 acre for the tree farm in a spot that wouldn't get shaded out or change the character of my residence.
If anyone has any experience or a handy link or two on growing trees (quickly), I'd be much obliged.
Things are pretty tight in this nw corner of the NW, with businesses closing weekly. If some city dweller wants to flaunt their GW tree hugging credentials, who I am not to make a buck off him?
I’ll try to find a link but there was an article out a couple months ago from a research center...CATO maybe? Idk, but baseically it said C&T as the left sees it will cause millions more to go unemployed due to higher costs, increased risk and less ROI for private investment. That didn’t even account for inflation in everything that uses energy...............so everything.
