Disappointment as US high school students snub 'lesbian-friendly prom'
Senior prom fell far short of the rite of passage Constance McMillen was hoping for when she began a legal battle to challenge a ban on same-sex dates.

The 18-year-old lesbian student said that she was one of only seven students to show up at a private party chaperoned by school officials. She said the rest of her peers went to another private event where she wasn't invited.
"It was not the prom I imagined," she said. "It really hurts my feelings. These are still people who I've gone through school with, even teachers who loved me before this all started. I've never been a bad student and I don't feel like I deserve to be put through this."
Her case drew a national spotlight after she and the American Civil Liberties Union challenged an Itawamba County School District rule that banned same-sex prom dates and a requirement that only male students wear tuxedos. Proms are parties held for students, generally in their senior year in high school.
The ACLU sent a demand letter to Superintendent Teresa McNeece in February, saying the rules against same-sex prom dates and girls wearing tuxedos violated Miss McMillen's constitutional rights. The district responded by withdrawing its sponsorship and cancelling the April 2 event.
In an apparent compromise, school district officials said parents would organise a private event with school chaperones that Miss McMillen could attend.

LOL, I do remember that thread.
This one has kept me sane during two termination paperworks and two new hire paperwork.
Hey, at least I am netting zero here. :-)
that is a GOOD SIGN!
Good prayer for Obama in your tag.
What a load of crap so you want the ACLU and the courts to force people to attend events they don't want to go to .I'm glad the kids decided to go galt
I doubt I would ever want my kids participating in sending seven kids to the wrong place and withholding the location of the real party. Mean is not a Christian value.
you have no proof that those kids did that.
It always seems to be a specially maternal thing (unless mom is particularly hard hearted) to wonder about your children and want to see how they are doing. Jesus’ own mama watched her Son go to the Cross, even though she knew very well what to expect at a cross.
SD appears as best as I can read (and he has not denied it) to have a theory that if the student body had reached out one last time to Constance by asking her to come, normally dressed, with male escort, to the well-attended dance, then they would have performed a duty which, if lacking, would be reprehensible of them.
I most respectfully believe this theory is rubbish, because Constance’s behavior clearly signaled an unrepentant proclivity to make trouble, and the word of God warns about casting pearls before swine, but it’s unlikely SD’s mind will change soon, if ever.
True and he has no proof the the seven other kids were tricked,I believe that we will find they were asked to go by their parents or went of their own free will.
As for Constance she should be ostracized, she wanted to use the courts and the ACLU to get her way.So now let her suffer the consequence.
INCREDIBLE.
They have no idea the consequences they are heaping up.
YEA! PRAISE GOD.
Do your kids know YOU TRUST THEM, TOO!?!
It can be an incredible . . . boost and reinforcement for their doing the right thing in all circumstances.
They might actually make homosexuality look bad in the public eye once more.
I quite understand and agree—having been accused of being a good “Jewish mother” . . . not without cause.
LOL.
now they want the school board to FORBID any competing parties!!!
now this is entering strict scrutiny territory.
The ACLU has their money and their PR.
I hope the news media reports the rest of this story.
I believe it,ACLU should have been destroyed decades ago
One more for your list:
If a liberal craps his pants, everyone must wear diapers. Distributed and enforced by Nat. Inst. of Health black-fatigued SWAT teams.
take away the attorney fee clause they rely on and they will die.
the next step would be for force attendance. but at that point nobody will spend any money. They will show, punch the time card and save it for the realy party.
I hope people hold other parties and tell the aclu to piss off
They found out that the lesbians weren't all looking for random guys for threesomes.
they know we trust them bc i have said i will trust you until you give me cause not to and then it will be difficult to regain it. they know about consequences. my brother and i never got into ANY trouble growing up bc we could not stand the thought of disappointing our parents. you will appreciate this story more than most... the only time my brother disappointed ny father was as an adult when he left the Catholic church to become a baptist and marry my sisterinlaw, the daughter of a baptist preacher. i said, daddy, seriously, he could be a drunk, into drugs or a satan worshipper. if becoming a baptist is the worst thing he does in his life, you have not failed as a father : )
Think it is interesting that over the years girls have gone together (in groups) to proms as they didn’t have date/boyfriend and still wanted to be part of the festivities. This young woman could have done so very low key..
It was about flaunting her lifestyle
drama queen & self centered mentality will always lose friends & NEGATIVELY influence people.
She has a lot to learn.. but hey, she might be just fine in the O administration
