Stephene Moore confirms she is running for Congress (KS-3)
Kansas City Star ^ | 4/6/10 | Steve Kraske

Stephene Moore, who has been married to Congressman Dennis Moore for 20 years, told The Star this morning that she’s running for Congress.

The Democrat, who was said to be in the race a week ago, acknowledged that some will think that she has a right to the seat because of her marriage.

I admit to being very surprised at this. The only explanation I can think of is that they've gotten commitments from Dennis' major supporters and that they've done some polling against Lightner and Jordan and they like their chances. But I still don't see her pulling it off, even if Lightner is the GOP nominee.

And in the Monty Python version... he steals from the poor and gives to the rich, stupid b*tch.

On Darla Jay last night (local conservative talk show host) they were speculating that Dennis has early on-set. Say no more say no more.... (got me in a Monty Python mood.)

Thanks for the heads up. Is she likely to be “coronated”?

If you mean will she get the Democratic nomination then sure, there's nobody else running for it. If you mean will she coast to an easy win like Dennis did the last two times then no, I wouldn't think so. But something convinced her to run and I don't know what that is. The only thing I can think of, like I said before, is that it's a crowded GOP field and they think they can hold Moore's coalition together for one more election. Especially if it's against Jordan, who they beat like a drum last time, or Lightner, who is from the social conservative wing of the party. But I still think it's a stretch. Regardless of who the GOP nominates I have to consider this seat leaning Republican.

I find this very curious, as do most of the folks in Moore’s district. I have zero inside information, but my guess is that the Democrats can’t find a real candidate and want to keep the election mechanism and fund-raising apparatus warm through this cycle so that they have a chance of taking the seat back in 2012.

The rumors of early onset have been around for awhile, fueled by Moore’s strange behavior in his rare public appearances. Something strange going on in his head, that’s for sure.

I think Dennis knew his luck had run out, thus opting to retire. He and wifey may think that a female Moore has a decent chance to keep the seat, especially if she distances herself from his vote on the bailout. You know how the women JoCo voters are.

Besides, why not try for a shot at two congressional pensions. And the dems have no other viable candidate so the money will flow to her. The factional splits in the Republican party is always the natural advantage for the Moores.

I think you're right on them not having a candidate. But the cupboard is bare and if none of the party names want to run in 2010 then I don't see them stepping up in 2012. Marinovich might have had the best shot but she turned it down. I think the Democrats just want to hang on to the seat.

You look at his pictures over the last year or two and it's pretty evident that Dennis has health issues of some kind. But I doubt it's Altzheimer's. As we get closer to the election it wouldn't surprise me that the truth on his health comes out in order to drum up some support for the brave, yet heartbroken spouse working to keep the dream alive, blah, blah, blah.

By onset, I assume you mean Alzheimer’s. I had not heard that rumor, since I moved from the district over two years ago. He leaves office to spend more time with his family, but it appears they don’t want to spend more time with him.

Maybe she will have Dennis go down in a plane crash like the widder Carnahan.

That's pretty sick.

The libtard twit is a nurse certified in obstetrics who supports ObamaCare and baby-killing. She would have voted for the stimulus bill and cap-and-trade "because of the jobs it creates."

Even Won-Ton-Ton the Wonder Dog would be better than this mutt.

And if Won-Ton-Ton the Wonder Dog was a registered Democrat they probably would have run him. But Steph is about the best they've got at the moment.

I went to a debate between Dennis the Menace and Jordan last election cycle. It started with each man standing behind a lectern which held one notebook. By the end of the hour, Moore and his lectern and notebook looked like a well-used, unmade bed. He rifled through that notebook like the class dunce looking desperately for the answers. And, if he invoked the word "PAYGO" once, he invoked it 100 times. I never got so sick of the word in my life. He was like a puppy who had just discovered his "paygo peter"!
