BISHKEK. April 7 (Interfax) - Kyrgyzstan President Kurmanbek Bakiyev remains in his country and is currently inside the government headquarters in the capital Bishkek, a source close to his entourage told Interfax.

Eyewitness said, however, that time and again protesters try to storm the building but that snipers were driving them away. Several burned-out military vehicles were seen not far from the building.

Eyewitnesses also said the headquarters of the city police authority had been ravaged but there has been no official confirmation of this.
