Gov. Jim Gibbons announced a plan today to have Nevada join a federal lawsuit to block health care reform. Democratic Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto fired back this afternoon, saying she could take action to stop the governor.
During a noon news conference, Gibbons signed an executive order to appoint Mark Hutchison, a Las Vegas lawyer, to take the case for free.
Gibbons said Nevada will join the federal lawsuit filed in Florida. He said the plan is to pay for any other fees with private donations.
This health care nationalization plan is illegal because it is unconstitutional, Gibbons said. The arrogance of this administration to force all Nevadans to purchase something (health insurance from private companies) or face IRS penalties is outrageous and wrong.

It's nice to see a Republican have a pair.
Bravo!
Cortez Masto (D). Sounds like she’d make a good little Bundist.

It is un-LAWFUL, Governor. And me thinks you’re gettin’ the gist of it. ;)
This is not the start by far of unconstitutional actions by the federal government. Some would say it started in 1861, others would say 1914 (think income tax), and others would say 1934. Whatever you believe, the federal government has been acting in an unconstitutional manner for a long, long time.
Now start impeachment proceedings against the commie AG today.
YEAH!!!!
this will be interesting in the way it plays out.
Governor v. state atty. general powers.
Let all of our enemies be known by the fights Obama has picked to destroy us.
The Bowrama-nuts are going crazy!
why can’t the Nevada Governor just fire the AG? She sounds like she is an Obamabot!
Nevada could win big by inviting the other individual States to a constitutional convention. They could even offer to host the convention.
Not only would it restore the national government to order, but could possibly get back the 87% of Nevada that was taken by the federal government, to keep Nevadans from using it.
But right now, the individual States legislatures should be discussing the agreements between themselves, and reaching agreement about language and purpose. Then, when 38 States agree on how to fix the federal government, they can hold the constitutional convention in short order, and put our nation back in order.
Whichever State hosts the convention will become the ceremonial center of American freedom and liberty for the next 200 years.
He doesn’t have the authority to do that.
WHAT? She cant do shit. If she goes against the governor he can simply fire her ass and that will be that.
I believe she works for the governor no-just like Holder works for Obama? If so, then he can simply can her little weasel ass.
But, all in all, I would rather have a greedy nasty sleazy attention grabbing lawyer doing the thing instead of some weasel working for the government. That lawyer will get all the book deals he wants.
Like Obama said: Bring it on darlin. make an ass of yourself.
Actually states have the ability to fix the problem today...without a Constitutional Convention. Merely having the state legislature toss in a law that says to be a state representative or senator in DC...you have to meet state residency requirements...and then state you have to have 280 days a year in the state (no exemptions). This leaves them barely 85 days a year to leave the state for any business (even traveling to Japan on gov’t business).
Any state could trigger this easily and state their own requirements to be a senator or representative of that state. This would take out the “Hollywood” status for all these guys and put them into the mind to support their own state rather than some national party. And I’d do the same for any Republican.
AG is an elected office in the State of Nevada.
