ALASKA VOLCANO OBSERVATORY CURRENT STATUS REPORT Monday, April 5, 2010 1:20 PM AKDT (Monday, April 5, 2010 21:20 UTC)
REDOUBT VOLCANO (CAVW #1103-03-) 60°29'7" N 152°44'38" W, Summit Elevation 10197 ft (3108 m) Current Volcano Alert Level: ADVISORY Current Aviation Color Code: YELLOW
AVO raised the Aviation Color Code to YELLOW and the Volcano Alert Level to ADVISORY at Redoubt volcano this morning. A series of small repetitive earthquakes began at 01:44 AKDT (0944 UTC) this today in the vicinity of the volcano's summit. Activity is continuing this afternoon. See http://www.avo.alaska.edu/webicorders/Redoubt/RSO_EHZ_AV.php
These earthquakes may be precursory to renewed eruptive activity at the volcano and increased instability of the lava dome. Whether this will result in explosive activity or failure of the lava dome is unknown at this time. However, there is a heightened possibility of volcanic activity that would produce a volcanic ash cloud, pyroclastic avalanches, and lahars and flooding down the Drift River.

Interesting, last one went quite will this swarm?
It’s a CommieCrate plot I’m sure - I saw Wasallia on the map!
Great link - here’s a nice “overall” type.

Can’t see anything right now, but this page has links to 3 Mt Redoubt webcams...

Wonder if the quake in Mexico might be causing a domino effect on the western Pacific...Hmmm....
Hmmm looked at web cams and all three greyed out. Bad storm or just sever fog?

My understanding is a storm, but it is over 10k so clouds(fog) are certainly an issue as well.
Here you go. No sooner did you wonder and look what happened!!
Now we’re going to fret about your safety.
Redoubt poses no real threat to anyone other than airliners flying in ash clouds, and in the last decade specific warning centers and alerts and far more caution make that happening again unlikely.
It had an explosive eruption period last year, culminating in the growth a large and very tenuously perched lava dome.
The dome has enough material that dump trucks lined up bumper to bumper two lanes wide would stretch to Florida.
Redoubt is a pyroclastic volcano, at which time is enjoying a bit of a lava surge. If this volcano experienced equal or even more intense explosive responses, that lava dome would become quite hazardous.
This is not to be taken lightly and certainly is more than just a flight level bother.
GOODNESS!
A hot time in the old mountain tonight???
What do you think it means?
Hey, I’ve got family in Kasilof and I don’t take these things lightly...like I do California earthquakes.
The volcano is unpredictable. It has a history of not performing on schedule and over performing when not.
I am interested in the fact that Alaska really has quieted in it’s earthquake activity the last week or so and it had really no reflection of the large quake in Mexico, as of yet.
I would think that this would be an area to monitor for a bit.
I asked someone to send you their dreams re Mt Lassen.
. . . as well as a line from up around those regions down to SW AZ . . . reportedly a no-man’s land at some point in their dream.
