How phony is Barack Obama? PBS Washington Week host Gwen Ifill reviewed New Yorker editor David Remnick's new Obama book The Bridge in the Washington Post Outlook section Sunday, and she kept finding Obama is a Slick Barry, a "shape shifter." Obama even admitted to rhetoric what should be obvious -- how he changes "dialects" depending on the audience he's talking to:
Obama cops to this. "The fact that I conjugate my verbs and speak in a typical Midwestern newscaster's voice -- there's no doubt that this helps ease communication between myself and white audiences," he tells Remnick."And there's no doubt that when I'm with a black audience I slip into a slightly different dialect. But the point is, I don't feel the need to speak a certain way in front of a black audience. There's a level of self-consciousness about these issues the previous generation had to negotiate that I don't feel I have to."

Maybe, but I always thought is was smartest just to be yourself. And maybe that is the problem here. BO is simply so vacuous that there is no there there. Most of us go through a stage (often in college years) of existential brooding which usually gives us enough to answer the "who am I" question. Perhaps Bro has never done that, or isn't smart enough to do it.
Or, more likely, a childhood spent in a hot station wagon, travelling town to town, playing the hungry waif to gullible rubes as her Traveller papa skinned them of their cash for alluminum siding that never was installed.

Are there any videos on YouTube posted that shows him speaking with these various dialects of English? If not, maybe a FReeper with some extra time on his/her hands could make one up and post it.

Generally good advice. But not if it means you show up talking jive to white audiences while running for political office.
Even business leaders are taught to modify their communications depending on the audience, for example the Briggs-Myers communications courses.
An honest man can modify his communication style for the audience. But the message stays the same. He still says who he is and what he is for.
Obama's problem is not that he changes communication style depending on the audience. It's that he doesn't mean what he says. If he showed himself as the gay marxist usurper his actions reveal him to be, he would have been laughed off the stage.
Now if you put up a picture of a 3 dollar bill then you will have nailed the phony completely, as it is, you have implied that he is authenticate, something I couldn't let slide!

Yes, that was his “American experience.” Which was liberally supplemented by his most impressionable learning years spent in Indonesia. Possibly elsewhere too as he has said he lived in other countries without ever saying where or when.

On this thread we're seeing wholesale hypocracy.
When the pope addresses Germans he speaks in German, French in French, Brits or Americans in English.
And I'll bet that if the pope is able he'll use Oxford English with the Brits and American English with Americans.
So would he be wrong in using local dialects such as Bavarian German vs High German, or a neutral midwestern dialect vs Deep Southern in the US?
Most people would give the pope credit for having great communication skills, not for being a phony because he spoke the local dialect. Or tried to.
And face it, if Obama normally spoke in ebonics he would never get elected to anything substantial.
And what about all the white people that hate ebonics and with that black skinned people spoke more standard English like they did routinely 40-50 years ago?

Not saying he isn’t a phony. Don’t know for sure because no one knows enough about him to know what he really is or isn’t.
I’m addressing those who rebuke him for speaking in local dialects instead of a one size fits all approach....for which they’d rebuke him for the way he spoke anyway.
It’s the groupthink flavored koolaid.
