Michael Steele Says He and Obama Have Slimmer Margins of Error Because They Are African-American
ABC News ^ | 04/05/2010 | By HUMA KHAN, JONATHAN KARL and POLSON KANNETH

Embattled Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said he won't resign despite calls for him to step down amid reports of the group's excessive spending, adding that he and other African-American leaders such as President Obama have a slimmer margin of error because of their race.

"The honest answer is, 'yes,'" he said on "Good Morning America" today. "Barack Obama has a slimmer margin. A lot of folks do. It's a different role for me to play and others to play and that's just the reality of it. But you just take that as a part of the nature of it."

"My view on politics is much more grassroots oriented ... so I tend to, you know, come at it a little bit stronger, a little bit more street-wise. That's rubbed some feathers the wrong way," Steele told "GMA's" George Stephanopoulos.

Steele is under fire by his own party members for what some people consider lavish spending -- $17,000 for private jet travel, $13,000 for limousines and car services and $9,000 for a trip to the Beverly Hills hotel. But the most controversial revelation was that RNC staffers spent nearly $2,000 at Voyeur West Hollywood, a sex-themed nightclub in Los Angeles. The employee who authorized the expense was fired, but then the RNC shot itself in the foot again later, sending a fundraising letter that mistakenly directed donors to call a phone-sex number...

It's clear that questions about Steele's leadership have become an uncomfortable issue for Republicans.

While most GOP lawmakers are sidestepping the question of whether it's time for Steele to step down, they are crying foul over freewheeling spending at the RNC and demanding a shakeup...

Steele race baited the same way a number of weeks ago, one reason I was ticked — declaring war on his own party and sliming conservatives. How leftist of him. We’re ticked at him for a number of reasons. For one thing, he doesn’t take the borders seriously enough. So why the heck should we cut him any slack when the RNC messes up?

Yep IowaMark,
I am one of those white devils.
And the two stupids you refer to would NEVER have the jobs they currently take for granted had they been born white.
Both little more than ignorant quota boys./

Actually, it’s glaringly evident the opposite is true you fool.

He's got to go, now.

What a sorry thing to have said. And just the opposite is true.

Steele is proving that his RNC Convention speech in 2004 was a fraud and a sham. That speech is what introduced him to the national stage as a potential high office holder in the future.

Now who didn't see that coming? Turns out Steele is yet another whiny race baiter black man, who far from admitting his monumental screw ups, turns instead to the well worn, tried and tested “it's whitey that did it” meme.
Nothing new here. Move along.

Mr. Steele: You are harming more than you are helping.

The more race is actually used as an *excuse,* the more this legitimizes race as a factor in decision-making. IOW, this kind of silly talk on your part, Mr. Steele, actually leads to making race a factor that people have no choice but to consider in, for example, electing leaders.

If it becomes, sadly, accepted that people with certain irrelevant characteristics, whether race, gender or whatever, are quite likely to use those irrelevant characteristics as a sword or a shield when their conduct or judgment is questioned, well, guess what? That then becomes a “cost of doing business” with people with those irrelevant characteristics.

And at some point the cost can become seen as beginning to outweigh the benefits.

Address the criticism of your conduct and judgment on the merits. You will be in a stronger position for it.

Didn’t Hillary have some fundraising ad or something that directed people to a phone sex line — or was it the White House? Regardless, THAT is what Steele should be pointing out re: the Fundraising letter (everyone makes mistakes).

As far as Steele is concerned... I don’t even have words to describe how disappointing this is to hear. How nice it must be to be able to blame the color of your skin for your failings instead of examining the content of your own character! The RNC was in trouble with its supporters WAY before Steele came to town — his actions have only made things worse...

And, I’m really beginning to wonder whether the RNC might not have been infiltrated by libs “planting” these “mistakes” on purpose.

It is tempting to begin raising the bar for minority leaders if there’s a growing risk of them biting the hand that feeds them.

When he’s gone he’ll be in the Democrat party quicker than greased lightning

I’ll sing hallelujah to that. Let him go do serious damage to the Democrats for a change.

I honestly think the only reason he was ever picked for the job was because he was black. Republicans thought they could play the game better then the Democrats and it would turn out better for them. I think most people knew this anyway.

Fire Steele.
Hire Sarah to run the RNC her way.

Win the House and Senate.
Shut down the Obama agenda.

Sarah 2012.
